The latest version of new popular Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus security products are now available!

    - Advanced repair – An increasingly common byproduct of a modern malware infection is damage to critical Windows system files, requiring a time-consuming reinstall of the operating system. Drawing on Symantec’s Global Intelligence Network, new advanced repair capabilities leverage a broader set of Internet-connected resources to repair Windows system files that have been broken or crippled by malware, faster and with greater consistency.

    - Improved SONAR engine – Protecting against malware is a cat-and-mouse game in which we are continually challenged to improve our products in response to changes in malware techniques. This year we significantly improved the behavioral-based protection engine called SONAR, which operates on the premise that while the physical nature of malware changes, its behavior often does not. As a result, SONAR now allows the latest products to discover and shut down malware that attempts to disguise its bad behavior by operating inside legitimate Windows processes.

    - SONAR-assisted remediation and cleanup – Understanding what happened after a malware attack can be as tricky as deconstructing a crime scene. SONAR helps with the removal and cleanup of malware attempts by saving the evidence of the attack for later use by Norton’s repair technologies. This remediation helps to ensure that all traces of a malware attack are removed and a system is returned to its original state.

    - Simpler setup and management – For users who prefer to install via Web download or who don’t have a CD/DVD drive, this release improves the installation and setup experience. Users can quickly download and install the latest version of their product for their device type and subsequently ensure that all their devices are protected.

    - Faster performance – We know our users don’t want security getting in the way of their normal day-to-day interactions as they use their PC. So each year, we’ve made it a goal to keep improving the speed of our performance while ensuring that we continue to deliver world-class protection. This release continues to raise the bar. Based on recent testing, compared with last year’s releases, we have improved boot time by 15 percent, install speed by 10 percent and memory usage during scan by 100MBs, resulting in our fastest and lightest performance yet. (Source: PassMark, August 2013)

    - Enhanced Norton Identity Safe – This release brings a whole new look to our password management tool. It also includes improved form filling, with drag-and-drop functionality and full vault searches available directly from the toolbar to help manage passwords even more securely and conveniently.

Nice. Norton usually isn't too buggy at release, although 2013 was a bit of an exception.

I wonder if this new version is any better at preventing/detecting/removing scareware and ransomware? Previous versions, including 2013, have been useless in this regard.

Hey xxJackxx, are you referring to stability and performance? In general how do you think it compares with NIS2012?

Performance is ridiculously good. Stability wise I have not encountered an issue. I haven't been using it long but then again I had problems on day 1 when the 2013 version was released. It is much lighter than the 2012 version. If I run into any stability issues I'll post them. I ran a quick scan and a full scan and had no issues with either. Everything seems to function as expected. I do not use the identity safe though. I prefer Lastpass.

It probably uses the "Smart definitions". I do not see an option either.

The 2014 versions only have smart definitions. The full definition option has been removed.

Any link to the whole PassMark performance test, assuming Norton wasn't tested alone? :)

By "useless" I mean (for example) a recent case where fully updated and functioning Norton 360 was completely blind to the presence of the FBI Ransomeware virus controlling the user's computer. I can think of three instances in recent memory where this happened.

What do you mean when you say you've "never encountered any problems in that respect"? Have you experienced Norton successfully either preventing or removing this kind of virus when running on the desktop? Often the desktop is accessible in SAFE Mode and MBAM can remove this kind of virus no problem, but as of the 2013 version Norton cannot in my experience.

I'd stay away from this current build. I installed it last night. Seemed to be ok but web downloads were slightly slower than BD IS.

I completed a Full Scan in a reasonable amount of time for a first scan.

THEN I got a CRITICAL WARNING that the program had stopped. After that I could do nothing. NIS 2014 crashed my Windows 8. My PC would not restart. Had to reinstall (refresh) Windows 8.

    Highly NOT recommended!!
