Jack- they began to include last month the full database with the installer instead of having it downloaded on first run. If I remember the plan was to update the installer with the new defs every 7-10 days.

 

With this new version is the late startup issue fixed?

 

I wish they change the UI a bit,it looks what I call 'lighter' they could use dark colours or something

 

That makes sense to do it that way. Particularly considering that often it is quicker to download a large setup file with a download manager, than it is for AV software to download large definition updates.

 

I dropped Qihoo because the Sandbox was a bit too heavy on browsing (Maxthon) and overall performance. Returned to Baidu, way lighter!
I have SecureAplus so antiviruses are just there to watch.

Actually I miss this program,its began to be one of my favourite free programs alongside avast and I am running avast v9 beta right now

 

A couple of days ago a Password Change Trojan was discussed that bypassed Qihoo as well as all other AV's. Turns out that this method is already being monetized in China by Black Hats:

What is really farcical is the statement "Symantec detects this threat". It is because the malicious script can be backdoored to a legit installer in about a minute, and the script itself can be modified with nonsense code thereby changing detection patterns.

But the most troubling thing here is that malware writers are starting to realize the best malware is something very simple that can't easily be distinguished from legitimate user commands (otherwise known as FUD- Fully Undetectable malware).

 

I am experiencing issues with 360IS playing nice with the Windows 7 Action Center.

When I boot up my system, I frequently get Action Center warnings that Virus Protection or Spyware Protection are OFF - even though 360 IS is up and running. The problem is intermittent; sometimes I get no warnings, sometimes it's only the AV warning, sometimes AV + Spyware warnings.

If I manually shut down 360 and re-start it, the Action Center corrects itself. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

My setup:

Windows 7 - 64 bit
360 IS version 4.3.0.4100 (64 bit)

No question, the BD database is large, but because the cloud engine provides excellent protection, the on-board database can be updated at a somewhat leisurely pace.
I find that people using XP machines and/or with single-core processors actually appreciate Qihoo's slow update because it doesn't hog the CPU so they can keep working. After all, BD is 360's second or third line of defense.
The Qihoo updater seems to average 33% CPU cycles (with higher spikes) whereas others will sit on 98% until the updates finished.

 

Tad- The easiest solution is to uncheck the Virus Protection box in Action Center since it annoys you. As you are member of Wilders, I severly doubt that you need such staus updates from your OS.


Sidenote- QIHU stock rallies again today. Company surpasses 10 billion USD in market cap.

Thanks cruelsister. Yes, the problem is probably cosmetic in nature, and the MS Action Center can be easily disabled. However, I expect seamless integration between the OS and the AV - and little things like this make me wonder if attention to detail was a consideration in the overall product design.

I am not dumping the product overboard. It will remain installed on my system. However, I will be judging Qihoo over the long term in terms of their commitment and ability to implement a zero defect approach to quality.

This program is excellent. The only things i would really like to see are the HIPS becomd non network dependent. A improvement of.the web shield (ive never had it block a single website) the late startup issue fixed and the sandbox become automated instead of manual. None of these issues are.enough to drive me from this product though.

 

I've tried on a test machine to get 360 to block a URL but still have not seen it block one. One of the AV engines usually catches the file thats downloaded without blocking the URL.

 

Guys, for this I have very simplistic and real life explanation: qihu has developed their database mainly in China and part of Asia and haven't fully grasped malware sites in Americas, Europe. Probably if you would type china malware site you would be notified immediately

Yeah, probably the cause is that it's China-based, but why wouldn't they add international malicious URLs? I'm sure I'm not the only one who's reported malicious URLs to them, but while the files downloaded from there get added to the database, their URL doesn't. Then why have a separate module wasting resources?

 

OK so I tried several malicious URLs and 360 never said anything about the URL's themselves; only the files that were dropped. These URL's were from China and Vietnam. It could simply be my installation but if anyone else can get a message from the URL blocker, could you post it?
