does windows rt need av?

    i have a surface rt, it comes with windows defender. i wondering if it is of any use or can i just turn it off?

    not quite what i meant. i dont really care what microsoft or some other people on the internet have to say. nobody knows more than the folks here.

    what i meant was, does windows rt on a surface tablet even need securing? can it even get infected? if it could get infected does defender have the potential to protect it?

    The software is limited to the Windows Store, Microsoft vets them, users rate/comment, there's a sandbox on each of them, and Windows Defender is builti-in.

    The whole platform is ARM, and doesn't run any x86 programs. Therefore, it's highly unlikely you'll need anything more than protection from online threats (and possibly exploits).

    maybe i will just leave it on then. i was thinking since it is so locked down i could turn off defender and save some resources, old habits are hard to break ;)
