Zeekly: New Search Engine

There is a new Search Engine called Zeekly which is supposed to give you a high degree of privacy. However, I cannot get to this new Search Engine.

HTTPS is not working but HTTP version is. Blog shows error 500. However they sure store cookies and why they need "Advertise with us" link IF they are so privacy-oriented? Also if you search on HTTP site the search results load on HTTPS. I really wonder what the register does too.

 

There is nothing wrong with that, you can have an advertising banner without cookies.

 

Nobody curious as to the MS IP linked to Zeekly ?

 

M$ IP address doesn't mean a great deal, remember they do have their own cloud storage and servers in competition with Amazon.

Although if you are in the US and you have an opportunity to use a foreign service securely that is outside the US (and has no US links that the US government services can leverage with), well that's potentially safer than going through a US provider in terms of privacy at least.

 

Indeed, IP doesn't mean anything with the rise of Azure, AWS, etc.

Though I'd stick to the 2 search engines that have been around for ages, DuckDuckGo and Startpage.

Also, zeekly's SSL test is beyond awful. If you're going to ensure privacy, that's not a first step that encourages confidence in the knowledge of those that run the site.

Gotta love the nonsense marketing talk though, "strong SSL encryption (2048 bit)". They have a 2048 bit certificate, the same as every other modern site today.

I strongly encourage people take caution in any new "privacy heroes" that crop up.

Startpage does it best, only a few odd google test comparisons I have tried and it showed google had better results otherwise startpage is the daddy of them all

 

I was a little curious. .. Yep, they are using MS Azure hosting. I'm not too sure how much privacy that can offer anyone.

It's probably not run by a serious company, or at least it's not run by a company that wants anyone to know who they are, as they use whois privacy to hide their real details.

There's nothing wrong with using whois privacy, but it can be a good indication of whether youre dealing with an individual, who might deserve a little privacy or a company who just isn't brave enough to let people know who they are.
