Sometimes I use Windows own uninstaller and for 32 bit software I sometimes use Revo (free) depending on the software to be uninstalled.
If you remove a program using Add/Remove programs you are using the publishers own installer. If you are using Revo it runs the software's uninstaller first before scanning for leftovers.
With Revo or any of the similar uninstallers, you should always check the result for false positives before letting them delete anything. If you don't want to do this, then stick with the programs own uninstaller.
Good advice. It would be good if these uninstallers had the option to scan for leftovers after rebooting, so that you can reboot when the programs own uninstaller wants to and then Revo or whatever uninstaller you are using would launch again after a reboot and scan for leftovers.
I use the installer that comes with the software, then I look for folders that may be left behind, and also drivers.
I think most people vote in here Revo because it has ability to snap shot the system before and after installation and then completely remove it. However in my case im looking for the most reliable uninstaller for software that was already per-installed on my computer. Not only that I am also running Windows 64 bit which Revo doesn't support unless you pay for it.
The last computer that I bought is an HP W7 32 bits laptop. I uninstalled most of the programs that came with it. This are the programs and how I removed them: Norton Java Flash Bing PDF reader ? Xobni Evernote Office starter HP games Windows Live I uninstalled all of them from Add/Remove programs, except Norton, Flash and Java. For those programs, I used their own uninstaller that can be found at their website. The result, never a problem, never a conflict. Bo
I don't doubt that reliability of the original installers that are provided I would however like to completely remove registry entries and especially folder left overs. I often like to browse and start programs from Windows Explorer and having a bunch of empty folders from previous installations is aggravating to say the least. Sadly what i found is that none of these programs completely remove folder left overs. I always find empty folders with Skype or Symantec on my system.
Windows default uninstaller first, if there is a problem then Windows System Restore, and if everything fails an image/backup of the system.
eh, just use true portable programs and never have to worry about uninstall. add/remove is kind of a joke imo because the program makers only delete what they want to - iirc Adobe leaves all kinds of junk folders all over the place after uninstalling Reader and there are folders for Adobe programs that afaict were never even installed on my computer -vwho even knows what they left in the registry. Just arrogant companies - same with Java and Flash - how many years they never provided uninstallers for their programs (and they were terrible security risks). had to use 3rd party stuff like JavaRa to get rid of the junk.
I find that Revo, Iobit, and Advanced Uninstaller PRO all find very different numbers of files. I run all three together, and I pay very close attention to the results before selecting them for deletion. I've never found running them together to cause any problems. When I uninstalled a trial program called Boost, for some reason they went crazy with false positives, and I I de-selected them. Bot only a few times have I found apparent false positives. I think Iobit is very close to Revo. AUP is a really great tool chest that allows you to select which cookies to keep and to clean temporary files that CCleaner doesn't find. Roger_m, do you run Qihoo and Robioscan together? I have wondered if they were compatible anti-viruses.
They seem to be able to run together. On the main computer I use I am running 360 under Windows 7 and have Roboscan installed on a Windows 8 partition (which I don't use as I haven't transferred my data to the Windows 8 partition yet), and on the another laptop I have Roboscan. I can't remember why I did this, but a while back I launched the Roboscan exe from the Windows 8 partition while I was running Windows 7, and it launched and ran fine (which is surprising) even though it was not installed, and it even set itself to run at every startup. With that in mind, in theory you should be able to have both AVs actually installed together without any problems.
are there anyone free uninstaller that can uninstall programs on 7x64 (programmes and program files X86). On 32bit I liked: revo uninstaller and Zsoft uninstaller
I use the windows built in uninstaller. Probably not the best but i no longer care about the leftovers. Hahahaha
