This was a very annoying problem from Bitdefender engine.
So that must be downloaded all file size again for something new in a file!

Fortunately, the developers of Emsisoft have solved this problem in the best way.

    You Can test v8.1 BETA.
before it I see about 20-30mb update per 24h but by 8.1 I see about 3-5mb.
    That's great

I haven't been tracking EAM evolution so if they've switched to a differential update then that's a good thing.

I could only post about my actual experiences and was told that, at that time, EMSI wouldn't use differentials.

    Kudos to EMSI then.

And I'm sure that they have developed a strategy that doesn't have the limitations of, for example, Ikarus.

I'm pleased to see them implementing a feature that is both beneficial and sensible.

Good to see Emsi is taking the fight to PUPS :) And I'm very glad they don't incorporate Ask toolbar in EAM  :D

Indeed, perhaps for the new suite product they could incorporate both in the installer and then have a screen to let the user decide which to install: Behaviour Blocker for average people and HIPS for advanced users(with a better explanation of course)

You are indeed correct. However, since the product does offer a "web filter" one would expect anti-phishing protection.

There is the issue of this protection missing as it relates to banking/financial security protection. Anti-phishing protection is integral to that. I guess the MRG tests ignored that component?

I dont think they will do this, at least not in the next major release. People would still not understand the difference about a BB and a HIPS and they might cause to much trouble for Emsisoft Support Team. :)

But as long as they keep developing as a stand alone product, they will have a supporter here.

Would be nice if someone who knows Russian could translate what the column headings mean?

Since the outfit ran a bunch of leaktests with somewhat outdated software, I am interested on how EAM performed on those.

Overall cann't get too excited over this test based on the testing software used which is pretty much run of the mill stuff.

If you use Google Chrome it offers you the option to translate it automatically when it detects a foreign language. Mine always offers me to translate the website automatically when i access websites not in english. All hail Chrome. :D

Google translate doesn't translate the column headings when you translate the whole site, but you can copy the headings and translate them in another tab/window.

Thanks :) I am ignorant of recent developments of Emsisoft :D Is there any difference between update size of version 8 and version 8.1 beta? If yes I may have to wait for 8.1 stable then.

    Hello guys!

What do you think about the proactive defence? Didn't like Online Armor, and has installed Qihoo360 for a while, but Chinese is scarying me.... :p Europe (Germans?) sound better to me!

So do you think that this has a good proactive defence?

If you use a 32bit OS, the best retail proactive security solution is Defensewall. And that is all it is good for. It will not scan for or remove resident malware.

Emsisoft uses BitDefender's AV engine. That engine scans in realtime. By default, it scans all executables. If you set it to scan all files upon creation, you have very good protection with acceptable system performance. The proactive component here is the realtime scanning.

EAM's web filter has a fairly aggressive IP blocker and that's about it.

Finally, when your talking proactivity protection as it relates to the Internet, your talking about firewall protection.

    I'm running Windows 7 64 bit.

Are you sure? Realtime scanning is one thing. This is someting other and should be called proactive defense!?

"Emsisoft relies on a third layer of technology that is extremely difficult to penetrate.

Emsisoft's behavior analysis constantly monitors the behavior of all active programs. If an active program shows any anomalies that may be indicative of malicious activity, there will be an immediate alert, and the program will be stopped until you make a decision. This enables you to stop malware already active on your PC before any harm can be done. No database or fingerprints are necessary as malware is detected by its behavior, and the technology continually improves with every new behavior pattern detected."

    Austrian, but close enough ;).

Let me put it that way: AV-C will release its retrospective/proactive test soon where they specifically tested the proactive capabilities of all participating products. I can't tell you the results yet, as they are still private, but I suggest you wait for a few days until the results are public to get an idea of how good or bad the proactive detection in EAM works.
