I apologize, but I just don't understand why you would want to do anything with your PC while it's making a backup?! Whenever I want to backup my machine; whether it's a image backup, or a "snapshot" backup, I walk away from the machine and let it do it's thing. Maybe I'm just too paranoid, but I figure why mess with it while it's working; let it do it's thing and come back when it's done.

Hot imaging was introduced just to cover the necessity of creating an image while the system is active.
If a user had to stop using his system/s while taking an image he could just take a cold image...

ps. How good or bad a hot imaging app is, comes down to the combination of reliability, speed and system/application responsiveness while taking an image.

Many applications come with VSS drivers that are designed to cooperate with the system for reliable hot imaging. It is quite fine to use the system while an image is taken. Whatever changes you made while imaging will not be part of the image as it is buffered while the image is being taken.

Yes, you can do exactly as you have described. I would suggest however that you rotate the drives rather than copy the AXTM folder. THis will give you what you have described but will eliminate the need to copy from drive A to B which is time consuming as well as opens increased potential for corruption.

I would suggest that simply walking away from the machine while the baseline is created would be similar to doing a cold image. The time spent not using the machine would be similar regardless. As for subsequent snaps they happen so quickly, especially if you have auto snap selected, that slowdowns are not noticed if they happen at all.

    Stode, rinem

The reason for the system slowdown is that we tried to squeeze all available resources in order to make the backup operation as fast as possible.
I'm considering to add an option to leave some of the resources free - this will make the backup slower, but will make the user experience better while backup is in progress.

    Peter,

You are absolutely right, AX64 provides the same snapshot capability as the virtual machines, but works on real machines.
I think I need to get rid or merging term and replace it with deletion.

Or you can call it consolidation because... well... that's what it is. :)

    Hi taotoo,

Long restore time is not normal. Looks like the program by some reason decided to do a full restore. I'll check this.

This release fixes the problem with freezing restore. Some users complained about occasional freezes when doing the hot restore. This is a pre-release version, so it's not fully tested. However those experiencing freezing might want to update.

    taotoo,

How many snapshots do you have? If not more than 30-40, then it shouldn't take much longer.

    Hi Isso

Don't forget to pass the word around during small talk on this amazing new windows backup & snapshot solution software named AX64 Time Machine. You also might be encouraged to perform a brief demonstration or two for them with one of your laptops.

I had it happen to me; and i'm no salesman, but what a positive impression this program makes.

    Keep up the awesome progress.

    Regards Easter

Hi Isso, I hope you are on vacation........

I like this one, deletion sounds like you are losing something, consolidation like you are keeping whats important and getting rid of the rest.:thumb: :thumb:

In case there is still room to suggest a name for the browser initiated restores I would like to propose HyperJump (actually I like QuickJump better but thought the other sounded more techie)

    So, HyperJump Technology

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a full restore as it only took 6 minutes. Full restores on my pc take about 15-20 (from memory).

I only had about 17 at the time. It was a two-month old installation so many dozens of auto snaps had been taken and merged over that period though.
