    Wow wow!!
    These are some great changes! Cant wait to replace my Avast 8 with this new version :)

    edit: Also, it is unfortunate to be released on the web like this, if this was not intended by Avast :(

    Someone again couldn't keep their stupid mouth shut. :rolleyes:

    Now that it's out, there is no point in denying things as it won't really change anything. Yes, things are moving forward, but i'm not going to comment on it more than it's provided until actual public beta is released.

    There are quite few very interesting technologies planned and i'm really looking forward to see how it will perform in tests and real life situations.

    The "Hardened Mode" caught my attention. :shifty:

    Is there any rumors or something that says they want to make the BB to be... chattier?

    I am confused. Why is everyone so excited? I see nothing that would make me want this now. It is an AV that has a 2014 version coming. And people are ready to hop on it? And these same folks will be back in less than a year complaining that it sucks. Why not stick with something tried and true as the NEW Avast shows nothing as far as how it will perform . between now and then they may change engines. Anything could change.

    No. They are dropping number of shields and making them integral part of the AV. Behavior Shield doesn't exist anymore as a separate component, it has now been merged with other shields (now total 3). So far not much is known, but apparently they are not going to use behavior analysis beyond DeepScreen or at least in a much smaller degree, so don't expect any significant changes in this regard. I've also recommended removing Behavior Shield as it only made false expectations from users thinking it should actively detect stuff where avast! team was mostly only been using it for additional analysis module for other shields and not as a stand alone shield. We will know more when beta is out and testers will throw malware at it, we might see different responses then.

    @Disney
    If you have read the leaked info, they are shifting to year naming scheme to make it more logical for the masses (newbie users). For me it doesn't matter if it's called avast! 9 or avast! 2014, but for some newbie, program having 2014 in the name means he is using the latest program. And having version 2014 released in october seems reasonable enough opposed to 2014 versions that some release in spring of the last year (spring 2013 in this case), that is just plain ridiculous. And the reason why they are going for that release timeframe is for the tests. I'm sure you've noticed how many of us complained why avast! was pretty much the only one being tested with older version where others already had new one. So it was constantly falling short in tests just because of that. No more with the new release schedules, because it will be released at the roughly same time like everyone else.

    Yes, this "hardened mode" is very interesting. And the aggressive option in it ;)

    I guess it is sth like SecureAVPlus whitelist approach, any unknown/new (malicious) files will be blocked. lets see when beta comes..

    I see, thanks. Hopefully they will make a global setting for the sensitivity and PUP detection for all shields and scan profiles in the final release.

    @harsha_mic

    I can imagine, if it blocks executions, it could have a whitelist database of allowed apps and a setting that will block other executables which are not in its whitelist or don't have valid digital signatures. But ah, just my imagination for now. Let's see what is it all about. :D

    Even if they don't, setting each separately for 3 shields is no problem imo. But it was before with almost 3 times the shields...

    I look forward to most these changes. I also like that they are consolidating the shields. I always felt it was a bit of a marketing gimmick to list 7-8 different shields.

    There a number of great AV programs out there, but if I am recommending one to someone, I felt Avast may be the best in terms of solid protection without providing FPs or other user headaches. It just works.

    If the shields are being "consolidated" does this mean we cannot choose which shields to install upon installation or is the singular options going to be still available.?

    That is not known yet, though i see very little point in removing shields anyway as you gain nothing by doing that, but you lose protection as shields depend on eachother...

    That is why I posted what I did. A name change and people have to have it. Lol. To each his or her own I guess.

    i just REALLY hope they dont nix the TRUE custom installer. i hate when you cant really customize a install when they offer a custom install. a reason why i avoid many av's personally.

    I hope we aren't forced to use the Web Shield with Network Shield or something like that.

    Last thing I need is buggy/slower bandwidth for minimal increase in protection.

    Very nice, I don't really see any reason for all the shields. More shields don't mean more protection. :D :)

    I'm very sensitive to web slowdowns and avoided web scanners like the plague before. Both Avast and Norton are VERY good, and I don't notice any slowdown whatsoever. This is on a 3570k, and a FIOS 50mbit connection.

    Not the case for everyone, I had it working fine until a month later. Websites were loading slow, downloads were being corrupted, etc.

    Even if it had no noticeable issues, I'd rather not have it use up resources, take over web browser traffic like proxies, possible incompatibilities, etc. Simply unnecessary extra load, unless they only focus on blocking URL/IP (Network Shield) and scanning HTML/Javascript (Script Shield).

    Well the best thing that should change is to make avast as reliable on the computer as it was back with version-6. the subsequent builds have been buggy and causing too many bsod's on too many comps.

    Ever thought there might be something wrong on your end? Slow connection, maybe, but not without a program update in the middle, where corrupted downloads, not a chance. Downloads don't get corrupted just like that...

    Ever read the first sentence? Files being continuously downloaded and scanned have no chance of corruption, right. I did not have slow connection, Avast Web Shield was the only cause of lag. I've seen it working optimally at first, but then buggy later many time already.

    In the end, scanning what you're downloading that would've been taken care of by File System Shield is a waste of resources. I could've try a convoluted mess of filetype exclusions, but not worth the time. I just hope they don't forcefully combine it with Network and Script Shield.
