As was said before, PRISM is just one of many items in the NSA toy box. I agree with the article, the NSA most likely has better programs in place now. I also am expecting any time now for there to be confirmation of what I and many others have believed for a while, that the widely available and commonly used encryption methods that so many believe to be unbreakable really aren't. In fact, I'm expecting damning information on TOR/VPN, Truecrypt and many others (although I think it's well enough known now that TOR by itself is pretty useless).

It's a damn shame the NSA (or rather those at the helm) decided upon this blanket surveillance. These are exceptionally good tools and I'm sure they have indeed helped stop a lot of shenanigans.

Snowden said PGP was still safe. You're right though, I wish a crypto nerd would talk to him and ask him specifically about TC and OpenVPN and what, exactly, MS can access on a fresh OS install. I think the math is still to hard though, for those first two.

We shouldn't discuss your last sentence...I want this thread to stay open :)

I've seen "his" telephone number a few times in comments ;)

And you might be able to communicate via his attorney or WikiLeaks.

    XKeyscore

Well the Liar Clapper, or others, won't be able to answer "No Sir" anymore, if asked about the USA public being Totally spied on !

One of the screenies looks IE6 ish, not that i expect it matters.

HTTP activity seems to be priority, so good for HTTPS ;)

    But above that is this

    More LIES & illegality:thumbd:

It seems that Shumeet Baluja's novel The Silicon Jungle really wasn't very fictional. But we knew that, didn't we?

As put in one review, the "novel suggests that computer snooping is too seductive to control, despite the consequences"
Impotent oversight, 15 rubberstamps and a director testifying 'Not wittingly / civilians, you can all go you-know-what yourselves' would fit that description.

edit; And regarding above post, Obama shows draconianimmaculate timing.

The White House does not want these programs interfered with nor the ability to have blanket surveillance powers threatened. Lucky for them, FISA and the FISC transcend the powers of Congress and the protection of the Fourth Amendment and Constitution in general. The tools to fight back are inadequate and far too inconvenient, and that's precisely how it is wanted. Unfortunately policy is the only way to change things, and the one thing that can't be discussed here. Either way, irreversible damage is done and we've got until 2016 before we even have a glimmer of hope that an attempt at reversing some of these powers might happen.

@Baserk: That review is spot on. As bad as it is for those of us not involved with terrorists and what not, this mass surveillance has far more of an upside than a downside in regards to intelligence operations and law enforcement. It's just not something they are going to give up without extraordinary national consequences. Not even the threat of cancelling trade agreements and other major issues seem to be enough for now.

yeah, they did this when the opp party was scheduled to have some big primary debate too in 2012 iirc. its no accident.

i notice that a Senator today said that there has been provided ZERO evidence to him so far that any of this prism type spying has prevented any terrorism attacks. so someone (Gen Alexander?) was lying again.

Well done Russia :thumb: & good for Snowden :)

Of course the "Critical Hearing on NSA Spying" being cancelled was just a Coincidence, like Hell :thumbd: Lying is the new truth

Apparently, it's been resheduled, so we'll see if it does actually happen. Even if it does, i don't expect the truth to emerge, oh wait, it will, but it'll be the new truth !

Oh I doubt Snowden is doing the "happy dance". Russia wants something, what that is I don't know. But, they didn't just up and decide after all that squatting in the airport to be "good guys". That asylum, even with all the paperwork and phone calls, could have been granted and started a lot earlier on. At best he's a piece on a Russian chessboard,

No, there was no coincidence on that hearing being interrupted. That was White House muscle flexing, plain and simple. By the time the next date comes around, expect said hearing to be heavily watered down and given much less attention.

Germany ends Cold War spying pact with US, Britain
    By FRANK JORDANS
    Associated Press

BERLIN (AP) -- Germany canceled a Cold War-era surveillance pact with the United States and Britain on Friday in response to revelations by National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden about those countries' alleged electronic eavesdropping operations.

Big whoopie, as the article said, it has very little effect on anything at all.
