It's especially ~Phrase removed~ because I set it to ask me rather than auto-quarantine.

More and more this auto-delete/quarantine is the biggest issue I have with AV programs. AVG, Bitdefender, and a number of others also do this.

No, you're wrong. I've tested this myself. Several times Baidu had better detection than Qihu. And this was with a month-old database so it was clearly relying only on the cloud; detection would have been even better with an updated db.

Still sticking with Qihoo,I dont think Baidu even has a proactive defense and some additional features like 360 IS :D

Qihoo just seems alot more stable on my system then Baidu. You cant knock either product, and the folks in China have really hit the paid security market hard with both these 2 freebies.

I am not too sure why they keep the QVM2 engine off for real time on default and why scan for rootkits is turned off in on-demand scan menu?

Because QVM II is also cloud based.

I am not sure about that..I just came across a few detections named QVM2 HEUR/Malware from real time even when QVM2 is off by default :argh:

EDIT: Wait! NO...it was actually happening because when I was extracting my malware pack 360 IS wanted me to scan and during the scan it was probably picking those up with cloud engine.

OK after some tests on this suite..I had 11 samples left over on default.

then I scanned with on demand scanner and QVM2 picked up 6 or 8 more of them and if you want more protection better turn it on for real time though proactive defense catches up very nicely with these IMO. :D

Well I played around with the suite now in the VM.

And My statement is true,The option scan for rootkit in scan menu is actually for the on-demand scanner. It doesnt matter what you do,if that option isnt turned on real time scanner detects rootkits anyways and if that option is turned off in the scan menu it doesnt use the rootkit scanner in on demand but instead the QVM2 engine picks anything like that up.So I think that sorts that out :)

Still I would turn that option on for the sake of it though QVM2 and real time protection override this defaultly switched off scan for rootkit on demand setting and detect rootkits anyway. :D

Also there was another strange coincidence the last time I believe the QVM2 detection alert in real time was due to the on demand scanning but now I extracted a piece of malware on defaults and QVM2 picked it up even when it is off by default

Wait Again! It looks like this QVM2 engine works even in real time anyway when a malicious file tries to be executed or moved.

I read somewhere that Cloud also includes QVM2 protection, its disabled by default for performance. QVM is something local & its also included in Cloud.

I think I read this info here in wilders, somewhere in this thread.

By the way, I find proactive chatty. Did you test it against safe programs? I think the popup appears for both safe/unsafe apps & is not behavior based.

imo its very chatty and kind of annoying at times.

In my use off and on the past 2 months, I find it does flag a lot of FPs, and/or ask a lot of questions. If they could iron that out, it would be great.

If the join 360cloud security program is ticked in general settings then auto quarantine seems to initiate regardless of threat resolution settings.Seems like a bug to me but maybe by design. If that option is unticked then you have the choice back

Edit...While that worked once..it doesnt now o_O...but it seems to be the cloud engine that auto quarantines and that we have no control over.Cant untick that engine either as far as i can see?

Exactly what i needed to know. So a turn off to install to the regular user, right? (i used to install Avast, but the latest versions are too chatty either, and people go in to panic or don't know what to do when seeing the warning about outdated software or about a sandboxed application...)

Baidu does have proactive defence, although I haven't tested it yet.

it is pretty annoying imo. every program i install with it i have to answer a slew of pop ups. it was such a pain that i simply turn that off during a install of a new program as long as i know what the program is and its not malicious. i am still testing this and was so hoping i could use this on clients machines as a nice free av for those that refuse to buy anything but alas i cant, its FAR to chatty for me to put on anyone's pc that is just a real basic use who cant stand pop ups. and yes if they could get that right and also stop the auto quarantine issue this could be a great av. only other problem i see is the web shield is basically useless it does nothing here.

Had a reply from email i sent (impressed with the speed of reply):thumb: .There seems to be a decent workaround setting the download folder in whitelist?.I dont have 360 installed at present ,but i guess the cloud quarantined files can be restored from quarantine if nessacary?
    .......................................................................
    My email:-
    Hi..,
The cloud scanner seems to auto quarantine malware downloads regardless
of threat resolution settings. Is this a bug?,Also is it possible to turn
off cloud scanning ,as options are greyed out.
    Thanks

    reply from support:-
    Dear..******
We've receive your feedback. And we recommend you to use the whitelist feature in the setting.
You may just set your sample download folder in your whitelist then our program will not scan the specific folder(s)

And the 360 Cloud Engine could not be disabled.

If you still want to work with the 360 Cloud Engine, when the network is disconnected, it will not take effects.
Or you may temporarily quit 360 Internet Security when dealing with downloading your samples.

Well proactive defense doesnt block benign/digitally signed programs at all from my use and installation on different clients it seems fine :)

Cruelsister has already pointed out that there is something wrong with zfactor's test as he tested out the same programs without a peep.

no offense but nothing wrong here. installed on three test machines all were totally fresh copies of windows 7 x64 ultimate. one hp laptop 2 desktops we assemble for clients. nothing more aside from the required drivers. uac turned off. same result on all. i will reinstall tomm and run the installer and post some screens of all the pop ups.... there are many.... nothing flawed there.

Cant you just disable proactive defense and just leave the protection to sig?
    therefore no popups
