Looks interesting. Though I am still unhappy about them dropping the advanced settings I just installed the 2014 TR build and it is actually quite nice. We'll see how long I keep it. :D

Advanced settings have been dropped ? What does it look like ?

I used to be familiar with KIS 2013 although it has been a while since I used it.

Personally I wouldn't mind not having *some* advanced settings available, but that really depends on what's left and what's been removed.

It was indeed possible to tweak about everything which was overkill for me.

Is it possible to set signed applications to 'untrusted' ?

Is the Kaspersky Security Network (cloud) mandatory, opt-in or opt-out ?

A few more; and the Kaspersky Security Network is optional as shown.

Thanks, I was too busy/lazy to post any screenshots. I am on day 2 of using 2014 and it has been pretty uneventful. That is a good thing.

And it runs very light; CPU time after 32 hours up time. It's a keeper here as I can get 3 free licenses for KIS from my Bank here in the UK.

Barclays; if you do online banking with them. They have had this offer for many years.

    Thanks for that.

Of course, it's difficult to judge it by a few screenshots.

If 'File Anti-Virus' is representative, does that mean you can't select those heuristics and other aspects in detail ?

I recall there was a lot of choice, and low heuristics were selected by default.

My initial impression is that they have taken simplicity too far.

But I'd have to check it out. Any particular issues on Windows 7 ?

imo with kaspersky their memory usage has never shown a true idea of how heavy it is. its always caused much slowdown for me regardless of the ram usage. especially on boot up its always the last thing to show up in the taskbar and until it does you almost cant use the system.

also i agree i tested it today and they have removed all the settings i liked. i dont want much of the junk it comes with. i simply would want the av and firewall and nothing more...honestly now i dont even want that. i do like the style of the new gui though much better than before. if i have the time to reinstall it and post some screens of what setting it does have i will just may be a few days till i get that system back up i had to steal a few parts from it for a couple days lol. unless someone would like to post those to show people what settings it does still have.

I don't see any settings like that anymore. On the other hand it is running well enough I don't much care. Added it to my desktop machine as well. If it runs well enough I will keep it.

Ok, after a few days of running it the copy I installed on Windows 7 seems to work fine. On Windows 8 it is broken and useless. It prompted me for public/local/trusted network every time I booted and after disabling protection for a few minutes it said the components were corrupt when I tried to re-enable it. I probably won't bother to post on their forum as they will ask for a TMI... I mean GSI log, which I am not willing to submit. :doubt:

-Corrupted and failing to start on the laptop this morning as well. It is now gone.Surprised they have signed off on this thing. I will not be using it.

Well, I gave it a brief spin on a Win XP machine. Only 512 MB, don't laugh ...

Much of the advanced settings that I like are gone.

What's this, Kaspersky for dummies ?

I forgot to test if the firewall is interactive or automatic, there didn't seem to be a setting.

Compared to the previous version, it's extremely heavy.

    512 MB isn't nearly enough.

Aside from Kaspersky's reputation it's hard to find a reason to buy it. That's my preliminary conclusion.

Why are you using GIF for screenshots? GIF is horribly inefficient and even looks ugly with its crappy dithering and low color number. Alternate between JPG and PNG to get the best file size if that's your concern. The files will actually be smaller and look way better if you use the above two formats instead of GIF...

I actually found it lighter than the previous versions, but I have at least 8GB of RAM on each machine. So you are correct, 512 is not enough. I do agree with everything else you said.

I want to install KIS 2014 TR to test it but it always end up with an error "Application not installed". I noticed that it will end on "Searching for incompatible software" but does not says that there is one. So what's the problem?

    I'm on Win 8 64-bit OS.

I had the same problem, try to install with compatible mode. Make the setup file compatibility with Windows 7 or Vista. Please reply, when this issue is solved. User Account Control and Defender will be off until the setup is running. Defender must be permanent off.

After having a love/hate relationship with KIS 2013 earlier this year thanks to a few dodgy signature updates causing me some grief, I think KIS 2014 is a step forward for Kaspersky Labs. I've installed the .4651 TR, updated to patch A and KIS 2014 is running better - as in less system resources - than KIS 2013 ever did.

I don't mind the simplified UI or the lack of custom install options. I've tried a few security suites (most recently the excellent Eset Smart Security 7 beta) and most suites/AV's don't offer any custom install options so I fail to see why it's an issue but then we are all different! Before anyone asks, I've been a Kaspersky customer since KIS 7 so I am fully aware of the custom install options of previous versions ;)
