Hi.
I hope you mean Net-Peeker fw. Bc Netseeker is new to me.
Since no one else has answered you, here's what I think after a couple of days testing.

Under the installation it gives you the choice of two modes. One is a more silent novice friendly mode. The other is called Learning mode but it's more of an interactive mode.
The GUI is very minimalistic. It has only connections view and up/down speed in the main window.
It has a VERY strict system guard. You can't install anything while it's on.
It's not really a HIPS, but more of a series of rules you can enable or disable at will.
The fw itself is not novice friendly in learning mode. Manually creating rules is quite complex.
The pop-ups is very informative with description about the processes going out.
It even describes the individual SVHOSTs.
It does resolve any IP for outgoing or incoming connections. And it allows you to fine tune exactly which IPs or ports are allowed or not.
You do have a short time limit to answer these pop-ups before a user defined action takes place. The default action is deny.
The connection window could be a little better. It doesn't always show the remote IP.

I think this is the best fw I have come across ever and I am going to try it out for the 30 days and then maybe by it.

hmm gonna try it now. hopefully it's not as much of an elephant as other FWs and perhaps a better UI than PFW...?

I tested it for maybe 15 minutes... I didn't like the UI again and the fact that I didn't know which outgoing connections were safe/unsafe. I'd like a firewall that's as light as PFW and with UI similar to Outpost FW... Honestly I wouldn't even mind metro UI but the 1990s police officer (PFW) or Mac UI (Net) simply don't go with Windows 8...

 

I tested it for a few days and some more. I don't tend to snivel about UIs especially ones that adhere to classic Windows layouts. If I click on or type in something and it works, the UI is OK.

Run it as Learn and if you know "which outgoing connections (are) safe/unsafe," you'll have no problems dealing with alerts and configuring new rules and modifying defaults; granularity is on par with Kerio/Sunbelt.

Preference settings are plentiful and varied; you can really bend these to your will. Especially logging. There is no setting to enable loopback intercepts globally, tho.

The default System Guard registry and application rules are adequate but granularity is complex enough to be dangerous to anyone but the consummate expert. Given the absence of any other BB/IDS/HIPS on a system, one might prefer to disable this module and run WinPatrol or the like instead.

Throttling and data capture are nicely done and what one could expect from routers and sniffers.

With an eye toward the future, LnS users might want to give this a... Look.

Indeed, a very very interesting firewall with traffic shaping and capturing abilities. As already mentioned, it offers registry protection and (somewhat) anti-execution, if properly configured.

It's the only 3rd party firewall i 've tested that can filter svchost per service.

The GUI might be a bit outdated, but i find it intuitive regarding its functionality.

The alerts are very informative, especially regarding the system services.

On the downside, it lacks IPv6 support and it does not disable WFW (i 'm allergic to that).

Again, very interesting firewall -well, at least for the past 1 day i have it installed.

One thing that's bothering me is how come -given its long time version history- there are no original reviews/comments/suggestions about it in the web?

PS. Ming Jin's (the developer) LinkedIn profile is quite impressive.

 

I tried it for a few hours & liked it Sure parts of it look a bit dated, but looks aren't everything

It has some nice features missing in other FW's, & the $ is fine, if i was buying.

I'm Very surprised this has been overlooked generally, & on here ?

I hope some of you get to test it more thoroughly, & post your findings etc

I'm going to give it a try soon. He made updates in January of this year so its development has not stopped. Last year he was really busy making improvements, and bug fixes by looking at the change logs.

 

support @ net-peeker dot com (Mr. Jin himself) replied quickly in detail to a few questions as well informed "...usually we will release a new build every half year, fixing bugs and add some new features customers asked for. The next release will at the beginning of next month."

 

Has anyone asked him if he will be adding support for IPV6 soon?

Seems interesting, particularly the screenshots page that offers a view of the captured packets (hex and ASCII dump), impressive and tempting for a try.

I tried Netpeeker Personal Edition FW a few days ago, and did not like the GUI at all. It was a bit of a strain on the eyes. The screen shots I was looking at was for the group edition. I installed the personal edition by mistake. Everything was just too small to view, and it looked very crude. I may try the group edition soon. Maybe I will like it. On a positive note I can say it alerted me to a lot of outgoing traffic that some of the other firewall do not. I would suggest him to make the GUI for the personal edition the same as the group edition.

 

Just like PFW the GUI has to be updated to be more compatible with Windows 7/8.

Yeah I did. It installs without problems and worked fine for me for a day that I used it. However unless it is actively deveopled I would stay away from it. Unless you want to deal with stability issues in the long run.

It IS actively under development and I reckon well worth the license.

 

Last time I checked it doesn't support Windows 8 64 bit. How long has windows 8 been out? Either it's development is at a snails pace or there is no development.
