Isn't this thread supposed to be discussing the features and effectiveness of the AVo_O
If you have issues with Qihoo's past browser history then that should be discussed elsewhere imo.

I'm not accusing Qihu, I merely linked two articles that discuss possible unethical behavior from them. I was not the one who brought up the fact they have a bad reputation. All I did was a quick search to find both links, in an attempt to shed some light on the matter, and find out where the bad rep came from.

For those that think antiviruses and other security products should only be evaluated in terms of malware detection, I got news for you. Malware means malicious software. If a security software firm is unethical, that's just another word for malicious. Like Avira pushing Ask toolbar. It's not very malicious, but it's not very nice either. The point is that the accusations against Qihu are much worse than that, and in case they are true (which I'm not claiming they are), then they should indeed be cause for concern.

What you are saying is very true, but really only applicable to the Chinese market and to those in China who install the Qihoo browser. There is indeed an Internet war in China between Baidu and Qihoo with many nasty things happening; but what does this have to do with someone in France installing Q360? Has anyone received a message to install the Qihoo browser? Has any had any issues uninstalling Q360?

If one wants to avoid a Qihoo product on ethical grounds because of aggressive business practices in their home market, fine. Personally I would rather evaluate a product on its effectiveness.

I'm with you. Unethical behavior (either past or present) should give users reason to be concerned about what is actually taking place within that application. Take Comodo for example. Their certificates scandal still causes many to not trust them (me included) to this very day nor their software. Ethical companies don't do such things. Personally, I prefer to use software from companies I trust.

    Later...

Any chance to make it work with Shadow Defender?

    See posts 464, 466, 468 to 471.

But I still don't understand why it is not possible to install it without uninstalling and then re-installing Shadow Defender.

Maybe for potential conflicts with the 360 sandbox? Dunno. No official explaination yet but no matter. SD working perfectly as is 360 all way around with no prob here on windows 8 64 bit.

There is one thing that came up today that I didn't really care for. A malware file when run both spawned a daughter in a created directory in System32 as well as creating a run on start registry entry. Q alerted me to the reg entry creation via popup, but it was allowed by default without giving the option to Block (guess this is why God created Scotty). Obviously this file did run on Startup, constituting a Fail.

With the Q+CF pair, the daughter was blocked from spawning and deposition. The reg entry was still created, but as it pointed to a file not there in a directory that didn't exist I consider it a trivial matter.

For some reason i dont think CF blocks any of the run keys either (only been using cf for a few days so cant be certain) ,though i guess they could be entered manually in the protected objects registry keys?

Who knows is its HIPS strong enough to rely on it as the only protection?

It's almost good enough from my observations (actually I just observed cruelsister's observations, so she can tell more).

Agree totally with the "almost" comment! It is indeed very good but not perfect. I would class the results of the Proactive Defense after trying to force an infection these past weeks at just a bit below CIS at Partially Limited if that is any help.

But as Q360 does not have a Firewall and you will need one anyway, please consider Comodo Firewall. You will gain the Firewall, Sandbox, and Comodo Cloud at very little system impact (in a decent computer, none). The Comodo Cloud is complimentary in detection to Qihoo and the increased detection level is statistically significant.

    Thanks a lot!
I was suspecting that Qihoo HIPS is a bit weaker then CIS' D+ but anyways is decent enough. I have CIS on a few PC and sometimes some PC and CIS doesn't get along so I need to have substitution. I guess Qihoo with win FW is a good choice for this.

Actually I am no doubt criticizing Q360 unjustly. The few failures that I did get weren't monumental in any way and only came after running many (and I repeat- many) samples. With minimal Internet Security awareness I severely doubt that any will have issues with this product.

I must keep reminding myself that I tend to walk on the Dark Side and adjust my feelings about a product accordingly.

Really getting interesting....How good are the default protection of this program? Is proactive defense on by default?

The QVM heuristic engine is so impressive....it's a learning mode heuristic engine!

I'd just be glad to know wether it generates many FPs or not.

I confirm, 4 GB. I have very good optical fiber broadband connection so it is unnoticeable. Next updates are much smaller.
