GNOME developers got an earful of angry feedback from their users and they were forced to bring it back. Microsoft is going to have to do the same with the Aero desktop if it wants to keep its market.
So they weren't satisfied with Fallback Mode? What's so bad about the Aero desktop when you can just disable transparency or change it to classic? Start Screen over Start Menu is the real issue there.
On F18 (XFCE spin) upgrading to Schrodinger's Cat with "fedup-cli --network 19" has worked flawless. Nice.
Don't bother with Fedora if you need a full-fledged desktop. Mrkvonic will recommend in his review that you install its sibling, Koraa, which is based off Fedora.
^I run F19-XFCE on a low-specced laptop. With XFCE and programs tweaked and running; integrating Dropbox, some cosmetic stuff, what would I gain with installing Korora in your opinion? I've read the Dedoimedo review but I don't see a (set of) particular feature(s) that convinces me to switch. Also, despite KDE's plethora of programs and smooth integration, it's not my cup of tea.
You don't have to install codecs, hardware drivers and programs available from third party repositories. You CAN configure Fedora with all the needed stuff but with Koraa everything is included. That is the main advantage of Koraa over a barebones Fedora setup.
Personally I don't understand the need for this. Install chrome for flash direct from google (more secure too). Chrome also plays most codecs so I use it for my video playback as well. done. 30 seconds of work, no need for random repos either. Not saying this works for everyone but I like it. I also wish flash would die, so theres that too.
I am still new to linux. Distros I've tried are : Mint, Ubuntu, openSUSE. I was very happy with openSUSE KDE until I found some things don't work on my laptop. I then tried Fedora 19 KDE on my laptop. However, the things that didn't work well on openSUSE don't work well on Fedora either. Plus, there are a few very annoying bugs with it. I am trying to find out what's the strength of Fedora compared to openSUSE now...
I was using 19 but when I moved to opensuse for stability it fixed issues. Now I switched to KDE edition those issues are back. My issues are trackpad not working, backlit keys not lit and function keys don't work. The work on Gnome distros but not KDE distros. annoying but not enough to switch to gnome.
Yeah I agree. KDE is much more problematic indeed than Gnome, more functional in the same time though...Yet KDE in opensuse has been almost bug free to me. In fedra, all problems were KDE related.
Yeah. I kind of gave up on Fedora for now. I love Fedora but 19 is just not stable enough for me. I have had 3 failed install, 1 broken system after updating, and another update broke my LUKs install somehow so the LUKs header was gone (and my data). That was it for now. I am on Open-Suse until something better comes. hopefully Fedora 20. As far as KDE goes I think I fixed most of it now by binding shell scripts to hot-keys. so ctrl-left arror increases keyboard brightness and ctrl-T enables/disables trackpad.
