As the title says, pretty self explanatory..

I have recently experienced what it is like when you are running your VPN and try to make a financial transaction. A big headache and no-no. I had to call to verify my true identity, which probably made me less anonymous and more visible then ever having to explain why my connection was coming from Sweden.

Are there any other times/places I should be wary of, when using my VPN(other then anything financial related)?

was the problem a VPN or wrong country routing?

for example, when I use paypal with a US account from outside of US, I actually need to set my VPN to route through US or otherwise paypal freezes the account.

as for VPN trouble, you will get a lot of that from services like facebook and gmail that look at your IP (and other device info?) and demand verification if it doesn't match previous IP/info because they claim they are protecting you from hacking attempts. personally I try not to use VPN with those, except of course with my fake facebook and gmail accounts.

Interesting, but this does not happen in EU, I access paypal while on VPN but from another country server (however always located in EU or Switzerland).

    It's really very simple.

For everything that you do under your true name, especially financial stuff, don't use a VPN or Tor. All reputable financial sites use HTTPS, so you don't need a VPN for security. And there's obviously no reason to hide your identity or location.

If you must use a VPN for true-name stuff, dedicate a particular VPN that you don't use for anything else, with an exit IP that's nearby, or at least in the same nation. Using a VPN for true-name stuff creates associations, and limits the anonymity that's possible for you in using it.
