Hiya, I am looking for AV software that is supported on Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation, as an unmanaged client?

Basically this is for our file server and because we have no budget all the other desktops are running Microsoft Security Essentials.

Right now I am running F-Prot on the server, but I am a little dubious about its effectiveness. F-Prots licence is nearing renewal so here I am asking for your advice.

    Cheers.

semilucid: if you're within the parameters of the EULA (10 computers) you could use MSE on it.

CIS runs fine on Server 2008. It's running on the system I'm using right now.

I installed MSE on it, and it runs without a hitch.

I was really hoping for something that states its compatible with Server 2008 rather than going with something like MSE that is not strictly speaking supported.

Microsoft Server 2008 R2 is based on Windows 7 with only some component changes (like removal of Windows Media Player and addition of HyperV). So really, there's very little need to state that compatibility, other than licensing and programs that use server components

What version are you using? I did try to install V 6.2 but that did not work, went back to V 5.2.

Yes, using it now, but I need a strong software firewall. Running Comodo 5 ATM.

The key words in the OP were "we have no budget", so any paid product would not apply. ;)
