but baidu says that everything is up to date...
i'm gonna try the offline installer and see what happens.

 

Same here and the offline installer doesn't help as well.

 

Baidu and Kingsoft are both promising and exciting but ultimately disappointing antiviruses. I have given up on them until I see some much needed positive changes. For companies willing to work offering security, they don't seem to be taking the job seriously enough from what I see. Though I understand that they might be facing some adversities which could justify the problems we've been seeing, their silence and inexpedience have become unsustainable.

 

I confirm, offline installer and identical virus defs.

 

Kingsoft is practically dead and Baidu doesn't update; Qihoo is an excellent replacement though.

right, i like q306 too, but it's a little heavier.
however, immunet free is even lighter than baidu.

 

I don't feel Qihoo at all on my computer, but you can always disable the BitDefender engine, the 360 cloud engine is pretty good.

 

baidu pc faster it still has scanning bugs. It stucks on some fiels and does not pass on full virus scanning.

This time mine was stuck on recycler=>windows.ini.

 

i've tried it on a old computer and i felt the difference.

Avira update impossibility seems to be a user right problem on the folder of Baidu Antivirus respectively on the file avupdate.exe. Using administrator rights for updating Avira succeeds - it might be necessary to close Baidu Antivirus and it's running services.

But this workaround can't be the solution...

 

I'm curious to try this AV.

 

I like avira but wish this AV would update like it should. At first getting free Avira was going to be great but the Updating holds me back from using it.

 

Baidu still have update isssue.I don't think soon will be fixed!

 

Baidu Antivirus 3.2.1.29578, still using this version and still updating every day. I decided not to install a newer version until the updates start working and so far I have not seen that happening. I was able to get this version from the Baidu website a month or so ago as they took all the newer versions away and backdated to the last "working" version. Glad I have stuck with this one....Why this is the only one that updates is beyond me, must not be a server issue here in USA as none of the versions would work.

 

I'm from Italy and I used that version for a few weeks, and it didn't update just like the newer ones...

 

I just removed it from my PC.

 

Following your intuition, i manually launched avupdate.exe, and the update seems to have succeeded.
according to avupdate.log, avira has updated, and i could see the definitions files increasing while being downloaded.
however, after system reboot, baidu defs still remain 31 may...

Same behaviour here.
But [config.ini] shows the right AvVDFVersion and [update_statistic.xml] the right LastUpdateTime.

So I hope that the current signatures are used...

p.s.: Is 31 may the date (and the time) of installation / first update?

 

I wonder how long it will be before Qihoo decides it will not update anymore?.

i don't remember, but i suppose yes.
i've tried to install baidu on different computers, and installation date always coincided with last vdf update - so it's totally fake!

[update_statistic.xml] shows the right LastUpdateTime, just as you said.
here is what i see in [config.ini]:

unfortunately, after manual update and reboot, memory usage has greatly increased (BAVSvc.exe now eats 130mb ram...)

edited to say that memory usage is back to normal

 

Guess I must be lucky but just started one of my computers that had not been on for a week and my Baidu updated within a couple minutes. But again this is the older version of 3.2.1.29578 I promised myself I would not install any newer versions until the update works, seems as tho it hasn't yet. Very happy with this version and running smooth and light on my computer.

 

i'm happy for you, but i really think you have been lucky.
it would be intresting if you could try a newer version and see what happens.
but i understand, if i were you i would not change.
