I guess every free antivirus program has to have an annoyance somewhere.

They are unable to fix the problems with the LOGS button (and therefore restore) but they give us a lot of ad crap. :D :gack: Tomorrow I will replace Bitdefender Free on all machines by other free AV solutions. :thumb: ;)

Yeah, I hate to say it, but there are too many bugs not being fixed, and too much nonsense in this one. I have to move on at this point... Too bad, it had a lot of potential, but I don't think we can wait forever....

bitdefender free is working fine for me on my win 7 ultimate 32bit ever since i installed it about 2 months ago.judging by posts here maybe it doesn't work as well on 64bit but as far as 32bit windows is concerned i can say that if it is not working for you then it is due to your system setup.

P.S.FYI i never faced logs button issue(except one time after a update) & ad notifications either in these 2 months.

The Logs button issue is totally quirky and weird. I installed BD Free on a brand new fresh Win 7 x64 (just reformatted) setup, fully updated, etc. The Logs button worked, until the next day when I rebooted, from then on, it's broken. That's how it's been for me, just plain weird.

On the other hand, I have a friend, who installed BD Free maybe 5 months ago or more, and he's never seen the Logs button issue once. I don't know what that means, but it's something. Maybe only people who install the new installers have the problem? I have no idea. He's Win 7 x64 also.

So it's one issue that really makes no sense on the surface. But I have to wonder, how hard is it to make a simple click on a button work consistently?

I don't know why BD Free is so adamant in showing the android message everyday. I guess it's nothing in exchange for top-notch computer protection.

Just when i stared to like Bitdefender Free they come with that idiotic ad and ruin it. avast!/Comodo for me, Bitdefender can be so good and all but with bragging about not having ads and then displaying them in such annoying way, they can have 100% detection and i wouldn't use it.

can someone post the screenshot of this android ad?i never saw a bitdefender free ad since i started using it 2 months ago so a bit curious about how it looks like.:)
on a side note maybe display of such ads depends on the region you are in since i find it hard to believe that a cloud AV will not take into consideration regional preferences while displaying ads/language etc.

I had an issue that I posted in their official forum, but didn't get a response.

BD Free edited and commented out some entries I had intentionally added
to the HOSTS file and left it as it is by default, ie:
    127.0.0.1 localhost

How can it assume the HOSTS file has been surreptitiously compromised?
I've never heard of this before.
Secondly, it modified the file in a non-running XP.
(I have two installs of XP on the same box. BD Free installed in xp-2,
but it changed the hosts file in XP-1).

This is what it inserts at the top of the file:
    # BitDefender has clean hosts file

Yeah, it cleaned it real good.

The pop-ups bothered my 70+ year old mother so much, that I uninstalled it for her and replaced it with MSE. I then did the same for my 18yr old daughter's machine..........Too bad.

i have never faced this ad issue so most likely it is region dependent(aka shown in USA,UK & other developed countries) since there it makes sense to display such ads but not so much in developing countries.

for logs button issue try clicking on show files button in Quarantine tab to access logs.

It makes sense to display it once. I don't have to be annoyed by it every friggin day.

Even though the message isn't popping up, it still refuses to go away in the GUI.

I've never seen a thread go round and round in circles for so long, 95 pages and 7+ months, and hardly anything has changed... It's amazing...

The only way it goes away is by going to the website. However, it reappears the next time you reboot your pc. I don't mind the advertising but just don't pop it up on a daily basis. The frustrating thing is, I have the av on my android!o_O

I've clicked on the message to go to the website but that still did not make it disappear.
