If the settings are greyed out then it cannot communicate with the service. If you restart the service, are the settings no longer greyed out?

Unfortunately I already reinstalled the whole thing :p
    We'll see how it runs.

Does anyone know if HitmanPro.Alert will remain free?

I asked this before, but never got an answer.

It will remain free. Tho it may get some extra paid features such as anti-keylogging etc that might be for paid product only.

They were still grayed out. I restarted service and now I can edit settings.

Okay, another question. Version 2.0.10 downloaded to a Temp folder on my computer, but apparently never actually installed. Not sure why, but probably due to some other security programs I have that blocked it. So, if I simply double-click the downloaded hmpalert_update.exe file, will the new version install properly?

When opening Comodo Dragon browser, I get 2 green notifications about Hitman watching my browser.
One is above another and when you click on the upper, it goes away but the first one is still there for some time...

    A bug or what?

No the update is not actually an updater. It will update if you pass /upgrade argument.

Thats a bug. Is the hmpalert service still running?

    Yes, hmpalertsvc is running.

And if you double click on the hmpalert.exe under Program Files\HitmanPro.Alert you see version number 2.0.10 ?

Yes, it is the latest version.

    Question: I'm running it on Win7 x64.
Why does it install in Program Files (x86) folder?
    Header displays HitmanPro.Alert 2.0.10 (64-bit).

EDIT: In Settings, all options are greyed-out.
    Is that normal?

    1) It places files in other directories too for x64 Windows.

    2) I think settings are greyed-out because the service isn't running properly, or so I recall from a post in this thread not too far back.

So as a simple workaround to the automatic update, couldn't I just uninstall the old/previous version -- download and install the most current version?

    @Erik

I started having a strange little problem about the same time I started using HMP.Alert 2. It may be totally unrelated to HMP.Alert, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

I started having "cold boot" problems with my XP machine (booting my computer after being completely powered down). I often have to reboot several times before everything starts/loads properly.

Is there by chance anything in the code of HMP.Alert that could possibly cause this? As I said, it might very well be a total coincidence and have nothing whatsoever to do with HMP.Alert, but I'm trying to eliminate possible causes one by one.

Try uninstalling Alert and reboot several times. Then install again and boot a couple of times. See if there is a differene in successfull boots.

    Wow, sounds exciting. :)

Btw, I do wonder though, shouldn´t a standard HIPS also be able to block these kind of "Man in the browser" trojans?

What exactly do these trojans try to modify?

Yes that wouldn´t be a bad idea, make the real time protection optional, for folks who prefer on demand monitoring. ;)

I had similar issues on XP once and after many days of frustration it turned out to be a USB component that I had recently added to my system. Just thought I would throw this out there in case it can help you with your problem.

I do use a few USB components, but nothing new -- have had all of them for at least a year or two now, so it's probably not that. But, because I'm curious, how did you correct the problem?

It was a USB device that I had hooked up a few weeks prior to the cold boot failures and didn't really need. I'm not sure if it was just failing or didn't like my new system, but I just stopped using it. It's been so long ago now I can't even remember exactly what it was, but I'm thinking it was a memory card reader.
