AXTM 1096 is now hanging on Preparing to Backup. Win 8, 64bit. It has worked great for the last couple of days. Now this?

Edit: A reboot seems to have fixed the freeze for now.

Thanks Isso for adding the the ability to write a description to each backup so fast!

This is what made me buy the program! I even could of got the bonjour deal but couldn't decide. Still bought it today with my 25% coupon! Big deal $10 more! Why not support the developer!

I am only having two problems one being much more major than the other.

My recovery media gets created fine but doesn't work after rebooting my pc. It gives me a BSOD :( Something about the WimFsf.sys

My other problem is the AX64 program doesn't like to be installed on non-Admin accounts very well. You have to right click and say run as Admin for it to install correctly. Then you have to manually copy and paste the "AX64 Time Machine" folder from the Admin start menu to All Users so your non-Admin account can see the "AX64 Time Machine" folder to be able to use the program. Yes a desktop icon is created but only on the admin account as well.

Hope these two things can be fixed thanks! So far I like it better than Acronis True Image but still have it as backup sense the recovery media works fine there.

Hi Isso, I am not sure if this is just a Win 7 issue or if it applies to other OSs as well but I find on my W7 64 bit PC that I am unable to eject external drives without forcing a shutdown of the drive. I use Zentimo Storage Manager and the attached is what shows as preventing the ejection.

    Hi Marc,

Sorry about this problem. May I ask you to create a support ticket (see Feedback & Support button on the top left corner of www.ax64.com page), and include the link to that ISO in the ticket. Thank you

Thank you max2 and sorry for the recovery media problem. Please upload the recovery media somewhere (ISO file for CD, or contents of the USB stick), create a support ticket and include the link to the recovery media, I'll check it ASAP.

For non-admin account support - we'll fix this in one of the upcoming versions.

    Thank you

    bgoodman,

Thank you for the information. We already made a fix to this issue and the next update should not cause problems.

Done. I'm a bit overwhelmed by this thread myself. :) You blink for one day and miss pages of discussions. And some blink for far longer than that. :)

I had a similar issue on a XP pro PC, except Zentimo was just mentioning some regular Windows processes. After I uninstalled AX64, it started to work fine again. I have not tried the latest build though and I am glad to read the issue is solved according to Isso.

Hi Isso, Have you been able to do anything toward creating the forum you spoke about? That will end this marathon thread. :)

Really liking the freedom that AX64 gives you to try out new softwares and then restore in under two minutes when you decide you don't like them :)

Does anybody know why AX64 might not recognize a new USB stick when trying to create recovery media? It doesn't show up in AX64, but Windows recognizes it fine. Seems to be formatted as FAT32. Couldn't find anything in the thread.

Thanks atomomega - tried it and unfortunately the USB stick still doesn't show up in AX64.

Guys, sorry if it was discussed before, but it is difficult to find that information. I'm going to buy an external USB hard drive and I'm curious if I will be able to move my AXTM folder from my current localisation (internal D partition) into my new (let's say E partition of external disc). I hope there will be continuance, and I won't have to make any new baseline, Am I right? Will everything behave as it was before - on internal D partition? I'd appreciate it if anyone could show me the procedure step-by-step how should it be done?

Artoor, at the moment this cannot be done. Once you change the SOURCE and DESTINATION folders once again, AX64 TM will take another baseline... AXTM's existing TRACKING FILE no longer represents the current snap chain.

If you wanna save it, I would rename your existing AXTM folder to something that represents the beginning and end of your snapshot chain... this way you can always go back to it for restoration or file access purposes using AX64's BROWSER module.

Just create a new AXTM folder (or let AXTM do it) on your new storage device and use the "Select drive/destination" feature in AXTM to create your reference, then take a new baseline. At least you'll have your old snaps available if needed.

    Artoor, Froggie,

Actually this is quite possible. Just move the folder to any other drive, that's it. The program will detect it automatically. Everything will continue as it was before.
