The current implementation of Auto Scans provides an extra security beside Virus Shield / On-Access module
For example, Quick Sweep iterate thru critical/sensible zones and then performs an anti-malware scan without any caches; if a virus is founded, then automatically a Cleaning System Scan is performed

Any AntiMalware solution nowadays uses [more or less aggressive] file scan caches: the AV scan a file now and then that file is skipped from the scan for a period of time.
This means that if you are "lucky" to have a malware that is brand new and no AV signature was added for him, even if after a few minutes/hours the AV has been updated with the signatures, it will not catch that malware for a while (again, it depends of the caching algorithms..)
This is not a common situation for an user (to be infected at the beginning of an outbreak), but still, there are such situations..

Iulika0069 do you know when a Windows 8.1 compatible version will be out?

My issue (very slow appearance of taskbar and Start menu icons at boot) seems to have been addressed in the previous update.

(I am now at 1.0.16.1023 - whichever update was before that seemed to fix it. Of course, it could have been something totally unrelated - at this point we'll never know...)

After disabling all startup items, the desktop loads fairly quickly but BDAV keeps saying that it is unresponsive and needs to restart.

It's strange. I'm seeing some people with issues and the only thing that was quirky for me was the logs button which has been fixed a few months ago for me. I had the issue on 2 of the 7 pc's this is installed on. Other than that, I don't even know it's working. Scary really.

Another bug is when you do an on-demand scan on a folder or file, it will get done scanning but in the events section say it is still ongoing, so when I try to clear the events section it doesn't work because apparently the scan is ongoing when I know it's done.

I have to say though, I love the malicious website blocking.

Anyone think its a good idea to run Bitdefender Free with CIS 6.1? I'm looking at the web shield in particular but also since its supposedly lightweight it seems like a companion AV.

 .. You should try out K9 web protection if you are only looking for web protection.

Don't run the full CIS suite with BD Free, as the AVs would conflict, but the Firewall with Def+ would work fine with BD Free.

Cool. I think I'll give CIS a try by itself for a bit then. Might try BAV free on another system instead. Thanks.

recently (last week) I used Bitdefender free w/ Comodo firewall . A couple of years ago or maybe more there was an issue between comodo firewall & K9 webprotection which stopped me using K9 webprotection for a while but in the end the issues were ironed out. All 3 products (Comodo, Bitdefender, K9 webprotection) are very good.

Circe, one of the changes in K9 Web Protection 4.4 is:
Improved compatibility with more Antivirus and Firewall vendors
    ;)

    @Bitdefender

If Bitdefender was as light as your 2014 product line, I would use this in a heartbeat.

Right now, I think the Free version is a bit clunky for my tastes

I used K9 webprotection on my two son's computers when they were younger, they are both older enough & big enough now to know what they are doing.I liked K9 webprotection, it did its job. The Parental control and their web filter were both very good & served me well. An excellent product.

It's not fixed until it doesn't happen to anyone during normal use of the program....
