look like some older 8.0 version is back again for download (say in installer properties of OSSP ): 4164.652.1856.489
    instead of: 4303.670.1908.506

    Edit:
OK, back in game again, thank you, who ever you are :)

8.1 is much improved and a lot smoother than previous versions.

I'm enjoying this so far :thumb:

I didn't like how Outpost Firewall was constantly making outbound attempts itself, even though I had put updates to manual. Other than that it was a very nice firewall.

    Likewise.

Kudos for Agnitum hanging tuff. At least this HIPS gets the freakin' job done right without dragging down your good machine like is common with competitors. Configuration is everything in a HIPS for it's analytical decisions to protect at peak efficiency.

I was looking at Outpost 8.1 but then read their privacy statement. Yikes!
I thought about purchasing it but it is one of the first software companies -located in Russia- that wanted my home address, etc to puchase online.

Also, I don't like using credit cards online and prefer other payment arrangements bitcoin, pypal etc. Privacy statement on purchase states that information provided can then be made available to third parties and that the software sends back information to their site as to ip address, browser info. location etc. There is another policy statement on Agnitum.

    https://secure.shareit.com/shareit/privacypolicy.html?sessionid=2508978070&random=d1df1243546b975bd729169a8c4dfd28

Does anyone have a problem with this policy?
Has anyone notice whether Outpost 8.1 calls 'home' from time to time without your knowledge?

I like the product, not sure of the security

How can this be trolling, this is his/she's first post in this thread? And the first post concerning Outpost on Wilders... :doubt:
One has to be able to ask a few questions about this or that IMO.

It's just a few "wonderings" as I see it :)

Not a troll. I didn't see the paypal item but the other part of my question still remains unanswered concerning privacy issues. Does any user noticed whether or not this product calls home periodically?

    Thanks for the update.

Why doesn't Outpost notify when there is an update from 8.0 to 8.1? I have automatic updates turned on.

I knew of the 8.1 RC from reading Agnitum Direction in the GUI. I haven't opened the GUI for a while and only discovered there was an update while visiting this forum.

outpost updates are for the antimalware and 'improvenet' firewall rules cloud for applications. outpost also phones home to validate your license against their database. there were quite a few pirated keys out there that they cancel as they find them. if you violate the terms, ie. install it with the same key on more machines than allowed, you will likely get caught & punished. security works both ways.

the gui phones home occasionally looking for 'news'. this can be turned off in the settings. (or you can make a rule to prevent it)

agnitum have moved the antimalware/antivirus etc. updates back to their servers in russia to improve their control and service level now that they have set up their antivirus labs at their head offices. it seems to have speeded up updates a fair amount.

application updates are not normally released via the inbuilt update option to prevent server overload and provide a better installer installation. urgent mandatory patch updates may be done via the updater however.. normal releases are by you manually downloading and installing the upgrade so you can better select the install options.

application updates are noted on their website and beta/release candidate trial may also be noted there in their blog. we also note them in the announcements section of the support forum. if you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact us and the other outpost users via the forum link below in my signature. registration is free.

Thanks for this info, kronckew. :thumb:

I have Outpost installed on one machine and a lifetime license for three machines. If I uninstall it from the one machine, is their database updated during the uninstall processs so that I can install it on a different machine, and the number of licenses is still in effect and as it should be?

Thanks for this tip. How can one go about turning off the "news" update, if they so desire?

Again, thanks for the very useful info. One suggestion I would have for Agnitum is that when a user "checks for updates"....that they would have an integrated announcement that a "new VERSION is available".....as well as check for "product definition updates".

Thanks for this information. I now know for certain that the updater is working correctly. This was the second time I had noticed this so I figured it was time to ask.

Does it work well with AppGuard? Judging by Matousec it would be a bulletproof combo. The $40 lifetime license is tempting, but I just spend $$$ on AppGuard.

not exactly sure how they work it, but as long as you uninstall from one then install on the other you should be OK.

news is turned off thru the advanced settings -alerts by unticking the bottom 'news' box. of course one of the news items is the update notice you mention last ;)

brandon, i'm not familiar with appguard. maybe someone else can help. you could also try over at the outpost forum.

Same here I have a lifetime license but earlier versions always gave me problems, either earlier on or after a few days but the latest release is working really nice for the past week along with DefenseWall and Shadow Defender.
May be a keeper if this keeps up. :D

Oh no it's located in Russia, I better remove it,but wait DefenseWall is from Russia too better remove that too, Oh no, but wait Shadow Deferder's developer is from China, oh no better remove that too.
Dude seriously, where the software is from really should not matter, only the reputation behind that software and the company behind it.
