Sandboxie 4.02 released

    Had a look these past few days at the official sandboxie forums, amazed to see the amount of bugs being reported, compared to previous releases.
    Are there really so many issues with the latest release or user installation errors o_O

    I totally agree, was just amazed at the amount of problem posts on there.
    Guess just teething issues then o_O

    I have no way of testing in Win 7 x64, but I found out the other night that on XP c:\Sandbox is indeed system space, not user space. Easy for you to test.

    Does that mean that c:\Sandbox should not be listed in "user-space"?

    Two solutions.

    1 Change Sandboxie container to %Appdata%\sandbox

    2 Add c:\sandbox to the user space tab.

    Why is it a solution?
    It was this way it was from day one. c:\sandbox to the user space tab.
    Thanks, but why the extra confusion?

    Now I see some have sandbox in appdata, was never that way for me has always been C:\sandbox.
    Just want to know the best security if the box is in C:\sandbox

    It would be so easy and simplified just to advise how to list it in appguard according where the sandbox is located.

    I am having issues as well with 4.02. Sometimes I turn on my computer and start Firefox and my skin is not active. If I go to the addons page, it shows that it is enabled. I have to enable and disable repeatedly for it to work. If I launch FF outside of Sandboxie, it works fine. It also seems to not empty the sandbox sometimes after closing FF. I am temporarily not running EMET either. I think I will be reverting back to 3.76 and will wait for the next SBIE release.

    This relates to the discussion in the Appguard thread suggesting that Appguard was bypassed because something that was in User Space was allowed to run with Appguard in Lock Down Mode. That should not happen.

    What was going on is that the default in Sandboxie for the sandbox container used to be %APPDATA%\Sandbox which is in Documents and Settings. That by definition is user space. The new default is c:\Sandbox which is System Space by default. Turns out that what happens is whether an application is tried as being in user space or system space, is no longer a function of where the application is but where the Sandbox container is located.

    Hence the two options. Either make %Appdata%\Sandbox your container in Sandboxie or make c:\Sandbox a user space folder in Appguard.

    Needless to say, this only applies if you are running Sandboxie and Appguard.

    Had to recover backup with version 3.76. First time I booted up with 4.0.2 I could not copy/paste between my main system, Win7, and my virtual machine, WinXp (I have SB on both). Second time I booted up my entire system stalled then my monitors (I have two) went black. Since recovery everything is working as normal. I know a new version takes time for bugs to be worked out and if there is anyone I trust it is tzuk. :cool:

    Hi Acadia:

    Good to see you here again. :thumb: :D

    This is just a wild stab but have you excluded SB in all your security products? My experience has been that step avoids a multitude of issues.

    SB is now 4.03 and seems for some posters to solve this copy paste issue.

    Agree 100% about tzuk he is a role model on how to develop.

    If someone has problems with 4.02, they really should try the beta and see if it's fixed. Otherwise Tzuk has no way of knowing.

    The beta's are safe, and if they cause trouble you can just reinstall 4.02 over the top.

    Has the Version 4.xx of Sandboxie been tested against sophisticated malware, yet? I would like to see a Video Review or something like that.
