dont worry about the extra icon in chinese version dude. most of them is not important and not related in security function. just ignored it.
english version has the same engine with chinese version, only avira is missing.
the 'something else' is actually include in the cloud too, it is the system file recovery function.

for the english version , u get the same protection just like in chinese version since qihoo already build in the 360 malware firewall' function in the 360 IS.

Maybe they will go some more cutting edge and snap off a segment of their labs to fashion a good classical HIPS with 64bit compatibility.

Already like 360 AV and it's settling in nicely.

You can't really fuss too much over the lame proactive module after all this is strictly an AV and not a floating malware monitor. There is a difference.

The registry protection appears is geared more toward matching virii sigs. as opposed to alerting on unknown writes to the registry

This 360 could really be the salt n pepper if complimented with a solid HIPS sporting registry/file guards.

Do you mean the "Trojan Firewall" component of '360 safe Guard' is in the English UI 360 IS?
If so, is it installed locally or 'cloud' implemented?

actually imnot sure is all the function of trojan firewall is build-in to the 360 IS,
for the example, i m not sure is 360 IS providing the ARP protection?
and the sandbox from trojan firewall is unavailable.
but most of the protection provide by trojan firewall is here.

the trojan firewall is not a very special stuff.

the protection provide by trojan firewall include but not limited to:
realtime protection (a very regular function for alllll AV)
webcam protection, anti keylogger, driver and registry protection
and the highlight point for the trojan firewall is the proactive defense, as we all know, 360 IS is providing proactive defense as well.

so, all the function i mention above, is installed locally for sure =)

anyway, sometime the proactive defense also require the cloud in some situation. that's why we call it as "cloud proactive defense" in chinese.

for my suggestion, just ignore the word "trojan firewall". it is meaningless in english version, i guess.

I still wish they'd included the Avira engine though. I don't understand why they didn't.

Maybe the extra engine isn't worth the added girth.

Last day, I scan some folders(containing new malwares) with this antivirus.

the detection was great, but some were missed.
I scanned them with virus total, they were detected by Bitdefender but my updated Qihu 360 did not catch them.

is the database different or is it with a delay?
    Any idea?!!!

Delay. I contacted Qihoo and they said it will be forwarded to developers.

But why keep it in the Chinese version then? Users could've always disabled it from the options.

looks like they just translate the words in GUI from Chinese into English, and set engine from Bitdefender as primary one, not suggest users to use their own engine, and not optimize the functions to users' habit out of China.

worth a try, but not on real machine...

Re: 360 Security: FREE Triple antivirus engine, BitDefender included

    Hi guys,

I'm the Product Manager of the Chinese version of 360 Internet Security 2013. We announced it in China in August 2012, here is the release announcement on our own bbs: http://bbs.360.cn/4077772/254884923.html.

If you know a little Chinese, that's good, you can have a full image of our announcement.

If you don't, it doesn't matter. As you can see the date of when the announcement was published, and also the screenshots of our first beta version.

And also, you can check when Baidu AV was announced. After that, you will know who has the copyright

Anyway, I'm very glad to know that you like our product! Thank you!

Could you also tell us why you chose to exclude the Avira engine from the English version?
