I wonder how effective Data Shield really is. Because if it is, Panda Cloud is becoming the most feature packed free AV.

It's small and well designed, it's cloud based and has always performed well and lately they've added behavior analysis, exploits blocking and now Data Shield and Rescue Boot. I'd really like to see it how it behaves in worst case scenarios where everything goes south. Coz on paper everything looks promising, but the reality is often different...

Note that it says they're free "while they are in experimental stage", so stuff like this might appear as Pro features when deemed stable enough.

I'm wondering if this is built in and if it replaces the current Panda Toolbar/Website blocker.

If this is true, this will be a huge game changer.

A rescue boot feature is offered in the Panda GP 2014 beta. If you're interested, please do have a look! :)

The Parental Control feature is built on the URL Monitor and adds a black/white listing option, which is comparable to URL control settings found in the IE browser.

Very nice, I'll have to give version 2.2 a try then.

    Thanks :thumb:

For anyone that's tried this, can you say if the GUI changed? On their website it now looks light blue. Past versions have been black.

The GUI hasn't been changed but there are new tabs for the new features. :) The only setting I change is "ask before neutralizing viruses" because I hate autoquarantine. I think it's my favourite free AV now. :thumb: :D

I had enabled the "ask before neutralizing viruses" but while doing a full scan, it didn't ask anything and auto-quarantined a few things. Go figure...

Tested very briefly in an XP VM (clean install). Web filtering (under "Parental Control") seems to work - "Advertisements & Pop-Ups" is one category that can be selected to be blocked, and IE 8 now shows no ads in the MSN home page (just a blank white space where the ad used to be). You can also see the sites that were denied - I see ads1.msads.net (13 times), ad.doubleclick.net (7 times), and js.revsci.net (5 times) in just my brief test.

Unlike Avast (which installs add-in's or extensions into the browser to do this), Panda's seems to work at the network proxy level, which I think means all apps (not just supported browsers) should benefit from the protection.

This is the sort of web filtering flexibility I had seen before only in FortiNet's FortiClient AV. Looks like good stuff.

Actually you can set avast! to block stuff without plugin as well. Just use the URL Blocker function.

I don't recall Avast having the flexibility to select categories of sites to be blocked. I thought Avast's URL blocker required you to manually enter the URLs you want blocked - however it worked, it seemed like too much trouble for me to bother with.

Panda's filter is intended for parental control. Its categories include things like Alcohol & Tobacco, Anonymizers, Criminal Activity, Hate & Intolerance, Health and Medicine, Politics, Real Estate... You get the idea - by my count, 59 categories, plus a setting for "Deny access to pages whose status is unknown." Really easy to use. (I do wonder whose categories list Panda uses. I am assuming they integrated somebody else's.)

Don't get me wrong - I like Avast, and I use it on one or two of my systems. I just think Panda's web filter may be more flexible and easier to use than Avast's.

You are mixing up Panda Cloud with the other Panda consumer product line (AVP/IS/Global).

Panda Cloud provides the user-dependent popup when potential malware is detected in realtime.

Actually no, I'm not. Look at the panda cloud website. They show it is a light blue translucent color.

Actually, its so transparent in the image that it looks blue, but in reality it is black.

I think it would actually look cool in that translucent blue color.

Can we get this UI color issue solved? It's critical to my decision on whether or not to use this product. Until then, I'm not even going to download it.

Check the OP's first post, almost at the end. 'Access Control'.
