PotPlayer is one of the best video players out there, but recently the support forum at Doom's 9 is closed. :(

Can we have one here?? It seems like there are plenty of knowledgeable users here....

If you still haven't heard of PotPlayer, it's from the same developer of KMPlayer, but a lot better (hence called KMP Redux) and rolls out updates very fast, with bug fixes and new features..

The download is 15 mb, its free, there are numerous releases so its in development, it plays numerous formats has codecs. Its listed on Softpedia as well a C Net. It seems your right but I don't know that a security forum is the best place for this particular product.

I think it has less to do with security and more to do with the fact that, usually, the vendor should be the one requesting to have a support section on the forum. That said, if its "official" support forum has gone dead that may be a bad sign.

PotPlayer puts windows media player, particularly the audio, to shame. Highly customizable.

I'd say particularly the video, because WMP doesn't play many file formats properly.

Well you won't find much luck here. Try Doom10. Yes, it's better because it's one more. :D

Other than that, try VideoHelp. There might be a discussion about this somewhere. If there isn't, you can start one. ;)

I love PotPlayer and have used it for years. Was sad when the forum at Doom's 9 was closed due to some nonsense legal issue.

It seems that some Doom9 moderators love to banning members and closing threads for questionable reasons. Hence Dark Shikari created Doom10. One example is seen on this thread.

Preferences - General - Store settings to .ini file.

Don't forget to disable "Check for updates" on the same page, because it will download Korean version.

When you download installer you can open it with 7-Zip or similar, and extract desired files, this is my choice:

    Skins folder,
    PxShader folder,
    ATextOut.dll
    AudFilt.dll
    bass.dll
    bass_alac.dll
    bass_ape.dll
    bass_flac.dll
    bass_mpc.dll
    bass_ofr.dll
    bass_tta.dll
    bass_wv.dll
    CmdLine.txt
    ffcodec.dll
    History.txt
    MediaInfo.dll
    MP3Lame.dll
    PotPlayer.dll,
    PotPlayerMini.exe

You don't need PotPlayer.exe, which adds chat and ... something else.

I use PotPlayer all the time and now with the PotPlayer1.5.37858Upd update you can no longer extract the files so you can use it as a portable program, as I always do. You now have to have a password which means that you have to install the program in order to get the updated files. What a bummer!

Oh, PotPlayer is the fastest updating media player in the world, with lots of new features and fixes, so be sure to check out for the new release every 2 weeks. It's currently at version 1.5.38146 :D

Not a lot, but it has to if you are associating your media files with it.

I tried PP the other day. The installed version placed a Windows Firewall rule or two. I did not care for that at all!

I later tried running the "portable" version via a good quality USB flash drive on an older XP machine. It would not run where VLC and SMPlayer would (from the same drive/machine. I assume the needed overhead was too great?? (Truthfully, I don't know what was up.)

Despite the other negatives, the video rendering of the installed version was fine.

All said and done, I'll pass on PP.

It just checks for updates when you run it, something most people find convenient. If you don't like that, right-click the app; click Preferences; then in the General category, select "Check for updates: Do not use".

If you're really concerned about security, why are you using Microsoft's rudimentary bundled firewall, where all the apps you run are allowed outgoing access by default? Try a real firewall instead, like Avast or Comodo. They'll show a clear message requiring your approval before any app is allowed to connect, going out or in.

I actually came here to ask a question about using PotPlayer: How to turn off the animated EQ display when playing audio files?

I've now discovered there's a (tiny) button that lets you do that. It's beneath the time display, and says "Equalizer On/Off" when you hold your mouse pointer over it—just in case anyone else is wondering.

PotPlayer also has an English-language website now:

    Cheers, Ander

You should never check for updates from within the player, as it downloads the Korean version, not the English version.

I can't check the authenticity of the site. It doesn't even have a privacy policy. So I wouldn't call it as English language website for PotPlayer. It's just some site created by a fan.

That's right, it is NOT the OFFICIAL website.
