I am using AppGuard and VPNs together. No changes to AppGuard's configuration were required to allow either of my two VPNs (one work, one personal) to function properly.

I am using AppGuard with VPN.

If you use OpenVPN software you'll be fine just leaving it guarded as usual (or don't, if you don't want it guarded). I have chosen to have OpenVPN guarded as it is facing Internet.

I've also used a few VPN providers own software. They may require you to configure AppGuard a tiny bit if you want them run as guarded. No setup though if you choose not to run them guarded. :)

Just to clarify my earlier post, I am running OpenVPN unguarded. To my way of thinking, all OpenVPN does is create a secure network connection to a VPN provider. It's only when the connection is being used by an Internet-facing application that there is a risk.

Providing all Internet-facing applications are guarded, I didn't see an additional benefit to be gained by guarding OpenVPN as well, but I may be wrong. It would be interesting to know what Barb thinks about this.

Anyway, there is certainly nothing wrong with with guarding OpenVPN - as a precaution. :)

I use it as you say - as a precaution. Who knows what vulnerabilities thay may lay hidden in the code of OpenVPN. If I can run it as Guarded and it still works, I only see benefits - though Guarding all Internet facing applications should be enough. :)

PEGR, I think that your logic is quite valid. For years Blue Ridge's primary business has been providing a VERY secure VPN product to extremely security conscious customers (so I'm fairly knowledgeable in this area). We do use AppGuard driver componets within our VPN client to provide a layer of security, but that is only so that the VPN product will stand on its own without requiring AppGuard to be installed. That being said, most of our customers elect to run AppGuard along with the VPN client, but AppGuard policy is not explicitly set to Guard the VPN product. AppGuard automatically provides indirect protection to all applications because Guarded Applications cannot access the memory of other applications.

Although I agree with PEGR's logic, if the OpenVPN still works when Guarded, then I think that is best to Guard it (I would especially set MemoryGuard to on). It's good to know that AppGuard does not intefere with OpenVPN.

    Any news on:

    1. Version 4

    2. New licensing system we discussed a while back, about licenses maybe being tied to an email account so you can uninstall AppGuard and deauthorize a computer and use the license on another?

Concerning # 1: No news on version 4 as version 3.5 is in the works at the moment...

I was wondering because I have the money to get AppGuard now, and was considering getting a license, but if version 4 is out soon, I would reconsider, plus I would want to easily be able to reinstall Windows or whatever without worrying about using up all my 3 activations.

The three user license can be installed unlimited amount of times as long as they're not used on more than 3 computers you own at the same time.

So there's no anti-pirating mechanism that will tell me I've used the maximum number of activations? It's just a legal thing like Malwarebytes' license?

I am a firm believer in AG's ability but for the sake of promoting this type of technology; is there any relevant test on the horizon proving the ability of AppGuard?

You can test it yourself. Set Appguard on high or lockdown, and try running a program.

Another test. Take some installer put it in the program area, and set a short cur to the desktop. It will run. Then set the install guarded. It won't get to first base.

You dont need malware to do this, as Appguard makes no attempt to identify whether a file is good or bad.

Correct. It's just a legal thing. I think BlueRidge can spot if more than three concurrent installations is exceeded as AppGuard does check for updates every now and then.

I wanted to provide an update on version 3.5. It's virtually ready to go, BUT I was able to prevail upon the Engineers to add a feature allowing for wild cards (as requested by many of you) in some of the policy areas. It looks very promising so we're going to do another release to our test department with this capability. Providing QA does not reveal any major issues we should have 3.5 ready some time this month.

If I bought a license now, would I be able to upgrade to version 4.x when it comes out, or will I have to purchase again?

Ps: This was also my concern when I bought this version but my guess is that version 4.x is still a long time away so I bought it!

    Edit: // Removed Incorrect Information!!

Should ESET NOD32 be added to PowerApps? I have been running ESET NOD32 4.2.71.2 for several months without adding NOD32 to PowerApps. I may upgrade to NOD32 version 6.X.

Are there any know issues with running NOD32 6.X with AppGuard?

Yes, add ESET NOD32 to PowerApps for optimal compatibility. Else you could also add it to memory guard exception (this is slightly more secure).
