    Sorry

but I cannt believe it. I did a search in this forum and found some similar issues being discussed last year but the thread was too old to be taken alive again.

So, I start a new one. Situation:

Last year I made a hdd backup with hdm 11 pro of a laptop hdd that contains win7 and Linux Mint with some ext partitions and the grub loader.
Problem is I cannot restore the hdd image with the hdm 11 pro nor with the new ?! hdm12pro successfully. The clone starts win7 but does the clone does not contain any linux partions. HDM sees them when I select the backup image but when it display how the new restore will look like it says already that the linux partitions are allocated as 'empty space'. Sorry I cannot rememvber the proper term since I do not the the tools at hand at the moment.
Then I did the restore and afterwards the linux p. arent there as expected?! grr

    Why is that the case`?

Is HDM in any way sometime incompatible with ext?

    thanks alot

    PS:
original was a standard sata the clone is a smaller sdd hdd. The option for proportional restoring is active.

I am using HDM Pro 12.

It restores my ext4 partitions perfectly.

Not sure what your issue is.

    Well

I tried the reimage again and all EXT4 Linux Partitions are tagged as empty space. ?!

No matter I did. I started a live Linux Cd and there is no Linux data. Paragon just did not copy back the Linux content of the EXT partitions! This is curious since when the image is opened in Paragon HDM 12 it does recognize that there are Linux partitions in the image! The image looks excactly as the original but the recovery to the new SDD (this is 100GB the original 160GB! - smaller - but the original partitions were sparely filled and the compressed image is only about 50GB!).

    Now it comes :doubt:

I tried the hated Acronis True Image (2013er) and repeated the process. Guess what?
    The same!
    What the heck!

Solution: I did a 1:1 recovery (funny, I could choose this in Acronis' restore function. I mean, I did not a 1:1 image but could choose to restore sector by sector) and then! all was fine. At least Acronis restored the EXT partiotions. Eventually, I had then a partion table error but I think I can solve that.

In a nutshell, did I miss that users have to make a sector by sector restore (I did not check this in Paragon again but I assume that it will manage this the same way then as Acronis did?!) in order to restore Linux EXT partions from an image?

    thanks alot

    PS:
I just had to intake that PaRAGON HDM boot CD can nome access the SSD since the corrupted partition table`?! Oh God,... I will try to repair it with a Windows repair CD/setup CD since my Linuxe (Mint and Puppy) can not work on the SSD anymore with GPARTED for the same reasons?! grml

You do not need to specify sector by sector backup of ext4 with Paragon.

I do not have any problem imaging and restoring ext4.

I am not sure what your issue is.

So, it will remain an open issue that I will never be able to solve. What a pitty.
