Uuuhm... Just to avoid confusion and last post from me in this thread as it largely a waste of time keep correcting users....

If you take the previous versions you can UNtick those boxes (build 54 and earlier) if you take the current (build 57) you can only skip globally (not tick/UNtick). There is not other official version around than these two. The skip all is not evident and probably cause the confusion.

A bit off topic, but Fax, you mentioned that you don't use the free ZA firewall, but only retail products. I'm assuming you use a paid-for ZA product. Just curious, which one do you use?

 

As with any new software that is supposed to provide outbound security, you might want to test it with a router (logging outbound) at bootup and seeing if the new software itself generates unwanted connections that weren't there before you installed it.

 

Any known issues between free ZoneAlarm and Sandboxie? I saw at Sandboxie there is an issue for the suite but no mention of any problems with just the firewall. (I also run MSE on a Win 7 64-bit.)

The previous build worked really well for me, but unfortunately this update didn't. The system took much longer to boot, browsers wouldn't start, and then the computer wouldn't shutdown. Uninstalling brought the system back to normal. Hopefully this was just specific to my system, but I haven't checked the ZA forums to see if others are having problems.

 

Indeed the 504 is actually very stable. The best build so far... just not limit to see the first few boot cycles. Wait it stabilize and application control to populate consistently.

You will always find a post like this to each new release or any ZA release suggesting to go back to the previous version. You can find any type of horror story on ZA by searching its forum. This does not mean ZA is not working correctly,. just the wrong place to look for positive feedback.

 

I did reboot the computer multiple times and although the boot time improved the network responsiveness did not - the computer remained unusable and wouldn't shut down without forcing it off with the power switch. I've used ZA Firewall on and off for years and in my experience it's prone to this sort of problem - it has happened with many versions. When it works though I quite like it, and so I would prefer if updates were optional and if ZA did not flash a big message that the system isn't protected just because a new version is available. I would also like it if a changelog was made available with the update notification so I could decide if getting the new version was worth the risk of crashing the system.

 

Probably a bad upgrade. Best to start clean. You can turn off the product upgrade in the schedule section. I have no problem here, smoothest version so far. But each PC is different unfortunately. Thanks for the link to the changelog. This new update is for Windows 8 and AV fixes. Since I use Windows 7 and don't use the AV I should have passed on it. If I try to reinstall I will disable the update checking.

It may have been a bad upgrade, but it wasn't obvious meaning there were no error messages. The only other resident security application I use is Webroot SecureAnywhere.

I agree that clean installs have a better chance of success. I may try it with this new build, but frankly the pop-ups advertizing ZA products when I boot up have started to annoy me.

 

Unfortunately the combination of ZA with WSA never worked for me. This was reported several time to WSA support. This is due to forcefield component and its service. Probably ZA is not mainstream and the issue was never looked at with more priority. So, it may work well for sometime but then I have experienced hanging as you describe and slow web performance.

 

Anyone know if Zonealarm free and Kaspersky antivirus are compatible?

Where do you think AV component comes from?

 

Also zonealarm does has incompatibility with the latest firefox. The engine of it is grayed and shown incompatible in the firefox add-ons. So if you are using it and running latest firefox, you will have flaws in the security.

 

To be more specific, in FF, ZA site check will not work. A negligible impact that can be replaced by the many free site check extensions.

I don't know. I felt like ZA made my network connection and boot time both really slow. Also no way to add exceptions to another AV....

 

I don't use the za fw no more as the toolbar is forced on anyone that wants to use za fw.

 

No forcing at all... lol, just "skip all offers" at install. There is a screenshot here (link below) and at ZA forum on where and what to push.
