Very nice Distro, kinda like using windows imo, and you dont need the terminal as much to tweak it, their are control panels for most of that now!

    running it now.

all the shutdown/restart problems i had seems to have disappeared.

before, it would fail 50% of the times.

i restarted about 10 times tonight without a fail! :thumb:

looks like i spoke too fast.

not only are the reboot/restart problems still there, i lost all right clicks on the desktop.
and my patience is wearing thin for troubleshooting stuff.

    back to Windows 8. :thumbd:

I'm running it since a couple of weeks.
Installed the last RC in fact, and kept updating it.
Didn't have any problem at all.

    just weird...

had a whole bunch of kernel panic at shutdown, DKPM server (or whatever it's called) going south and whatnot.

glad it's working good for you. :)

    merci pour le feedback! :)

I have a dumb question. If I am running Mint 15 RC, do I have to reinstall to get the full benefits of the released version? I am pretty sure the answer is no, but I want to check with you smarter people to be sure.

from what i've read on the Linux Mint blog and forums you are good to go.
the RC is automatically upgraded to the Final via the daily updates.

The MATE version looks great, but crashes with abandon for me. Sometimes the install DVD crashes. Sometimes I get it installed only to see a kernel panic on the first reboot.

Same behavior in the Ubuntu release Mint 15 is based on, so I blame the default kernel.

Installing an Ubuntu mainline kernel is a fix, but brings along some hassles I'd rather not deal with.

Ya know, if CentOS had a recent GTK2, I might go back to that.

Reinstall it and install the Ubuntu mainline kernel or whichever version is stable. Then reboot. See if it works :)

tnx, but Xubuntu works out of the box for me.

this stuff is too complicated for me anyway. ;)

    Strange.
Mint 15 with XFCE desktop works perfectly well here.

P.S. Fan of King Crimson, heh? ;)

strange how things can go so well on one machine and go so sour on another one.
thankfully, there's plenty to chose from in the Linux world. ;)

Very true about hardware, sometimes it just doesn't work unless you trouble shoot the problem, Mine has been running perfect since I have been using it from RC, shutdown & startup is smooth and fast, everything is fast, but it still lags while multi tasking, windows can handle multitasking and graffix better than Linux does. but Linux is getting very close, its still the most stable release I have used!

Linux Mint 15 Olivia Cinnamon review - Fantastic

OK, I've written a long, enthusiastic review of Linux Mint 15 Olivia with Cinnamon desktop, tested on T61 laptop with SSD and Intel graphics, covering live session, installation in a quad-boot setup, and post-install usage, including Wireless, Bluetooth, Samba sharing, look & feel, customization, themes, system settings, multimedia playback - Flash, MP3, iTunes (QuickTime) in HD, Microsoft Media Server (MMS), applications choice, software managers & updates, resources, stability, suspend & resume, printing, some visual and other glitches, and more. Have fun.

Always nice to see another solid Mint release. An added treat is that Cinnamon 1.8 should be backported into Maya and Nadia any time now.

    ok.

i decided to give this another try.

i re-installed this morning and restarted/rebooted at least 15 times.
    so far so good.
    knock on wood! ;)

i disabled UEFI in the BIOS this time around.
i don't know if that can make a difference but anyway...

still going good after a few days.

looking forward what the Mint team comes up with their version of XFCE but Cinnamon has indeed come a long way. :thumb:

and all the boot/shutdown problems i was having with the RC are gone.

You don't need to wait for the Mint team to install the XFCE desktop.
These days, I reinstalled Fedora 18 XFCE and like it very much!
YUM is a different beast than Synaptic, but it's just a matter of getting used to it.

actually, i find Cinnamon nice enough that i am considering running that instead of XFCE.
XFCE has been my favorite so far because it's a traditional desktop interface which is also very fast on performance.

but Cinnamon is almost equal when it comes to RAM and CPU usage.

    tough choice. :)
