Agreed. Running a web browser at the user's integrity level? Hey Mozilla... 2005 called, it wants its browser back

 

Ughhh... more stupid UI changes that I will have to revert in about:config because of some guy decides to make a "fashion statement."
Native 64 bit support is the most immediate future of computing. Maybe they should concentrate on that instead of archaic 32 bit browser.

Maybe somebody should wake up the guys at Mozilla... Instead of talking about the philosophy of naming an application "browser" or not, they should focus on keeping Firefox as configurable as possible, and not turning it into a Chrome clone.

Yes! They should, but all they seem to care about is making it look like Chrome. Maybe it is time I just gave up and give Chrome more of a try. Since it seems to be what everyone else wants to be, why not go with the original? Once they both look the same, Chrome has better security. I'm sure Firefox will continue to break add-ons with its updates, a problem Chrome does not seems to have. They're imitating the wrong parts.

Agree. I'm kind of tired of ppl using funky words for something's that's really not new (e.g. cloud computing etc).

 

Perhaps what Mozilla ought to think about are "user selectable" modes of operation in order to keep what is good about it now from what it will be like in the future. Hopefully, whatever they decide doesn't break the good stuff, and introduces a seamless way for the user to get what she/he needs/wants, etc.

Guess I'm antiquated then... because I do indeed use my browser to... browse (imagine that?!) And don't do all the trendy crap the mainstream majority apparently use them for these days.

The most sophisticated web app I use, ummm... is probably my browser, actually. And I don't do social networking. Sounds to me like yet more "progress" that is in reality more like regression. More of the same ol'

 

Every time I read something about Firefox & the future I inwardly thank the SeaMonkey Council for keeping SM going.

I can't figure out why anyone thinks they need to imitate Chrome. Chrome achieves "simplicity" by masking options. For instance after 27 iterations it's still not possible to configure tab behavior so that closing the last tab doesn't close the browser window. Adding this option would make Chrome more complex though and apparently that's contrary to the paradigm. Perhaps people who are intimidated by options are comforted by the fact that there are so few? Those folks typically use the browser with default settings anyway so what difference does it make to them?

Security is another matter. I believe Chrome was the first to isolate/sandbox tabs as separate processes. That's something worth emulating.

 

There have been significant, and rather fundamental, changes in Firefox and its underlying code base in recent years. Which largely parallel WhatWG/HTML5 efforts to increase what "web" related active content can do. For a quick taste one can visit http://html5test.com/ and click through to more info. I think some here would notice that many of the newer features are inconsistent with the objectives pursued by earlier developers of "web browsers". Firefox is now more of a "web platform". We may still call it a "web browser". We may, for the moment at least, not use (and even try to avoid) some of the new features, such as the ability to run web apps. However, these changes are important to acknowledge. Even focus on, I would say, because they are the ones with potential consequences for security, privacy, availability, computing costs, etc.

This is so conspicuous. What's under the hood, WebKit? It looks like all they did was download one of the Chromium builds and post a few screenshots.

it is NOT CHROME under the hood i can assure you of that. i am a ux user and have this running right now im typing from it i can assure you it is not chrome and imo its WAY better than chrome. i am not at all a fan of chrome. much of what is being said about the ux build is not correct!! many people are saying you loose customization... not true at all. you can still customize the gui just maybe a small bit less than the older version. you also still have all the same settings as the previous one at this time. the only thing thats really different are the tab styles are more to look like the new trends of "folder" tabs, and the settings button is the 3 line button on the right hand side instead of the orange firefox button on the left. there is still a add on bar available for me and a bookmarks bar.

imo this is WAYYYY better then the "new" opera and imo i really honestly like the new style. i have always like the look of chrome but hate the program itself. i have been using ux for a while now and i have yet to have a single crash, my add ons i was using still work (like the webroot toolbar), it HAS bookmarks which is more than i can say for chrome or opera without a add on.. i have mo memory leaks, and memory usage is down for me compared to even the previous build of firefox. and its FAST, faster than the current version of firefox imo

i would suggest to someone to try this before they bash it. other than maybe the style if you dont like, its very nice. im sure also there will probably be skins if you dont like the style down the line. if someone has a question who does not want to use it lmk ill do the best i can to answer it.
