Well I have not done a full scan with any AV software for years, so this is not an issue for me. I just don't feel the need to do a full scan - even on infected machines when I install MBAM I only ever do a quick scan. While I do have some concerns that the detection rate could be better, for the moment I am going to continue using Baidu. Firstly it would be hard to find a lighter antivirus. In particuar I like that Baidu is always very light on my system. Even short periods of AV software causing slowdowns lead to me uninstalling them. Also I find the user interface of Baidu to be very well designed - for example I really like the ability to ignore a threat with just a single mouse click, even when it detected by the on access protection. If Baidu keeps being update as reguarly as it is, I think it has a very bright future. I can also say the same for Baidu PC Faster, which I have installed on quite a few computers now.
Yeah, Baidu is very light. My office PC is sensitive to AVs. But with Baidu it didn't notice even scans.
It doesn't appear so. I'm running ver 3.4.1.29680 and it hasn't updated the VDB for 8 days now. Let's hope they fix it soon as other than that I really like this AV.
Change log for v3.4.1.29680 (2013-05-24) Baidu Antivirus 3.4.1.29680 ADDED Added new features of USB protection: Scan USB automatically Block auto-start of malware Safely disconnect USB, support operation of locked files Intelligent reconnection function IMPROVED Optimized cloud search Optimized scan result cache Optimized the scan procedure Optimized the context menu Modify the default heuristic level FIXED Fixed BUG of scan procedure
It's light but so far the FP rate is just way too high at the default settings for this AV. I have over 500 games on steam alone "I know I have a problem" and it thinks about ~75% of them are trojans.
Not to mention that you can't defrag any Baidu files, and things like running CCleaner take 1000% longer than with any other AV...........But hey, it's light. lol
Not being able to defrag any of the Baidu files should not really be an issue. I haven't come across this as on my main laptop I am not using any 3rd party defragmenters. As for CCleaner, I don't use it as I have no use for it. Baidu PC Faster is all I use for occasional cleaning of temp files. If Baidu it is causing a big slowdown with CCleaner than that will be an issue for those using CCleaner. But, like I said I don't use CCleaner, and if I did, I would probably use it at the very most once a month, so this would not be an issue for me. Well Baidu is extremely light for me, much lighter than any other antivirus I've used recently. Some antiviruses I find to be very light the majority of the time, but do have occasional moments of high CPU use - and when they happens I am very quick to uninstall them. However, I find Baidu to be light all of time, with the default settings. I haven't changed the protection settings or enabled Avira to give better protection, as lightness is much more important to me than increased protection.
Yes, this has already been discussed in this thread. I'm guessing it will be fixed soon considering the frequency of program updates. I'm still using v.3.2.1.27892 (due to not rebooting after a more recent version was installed) and it is still getting updates.
Why don't you ditch all AVs and go with something like EXE Radar Pro? It will make you rethink what you thought light was.
When I get a chance I will give it a try, thanks for the tip. If I don't get too many pop ups from it, I may even purchase it. But, in terms of lightness, for a conventional antivirus, I really doubt that you can get anything lighter than Baidu or Kingsoft. WSA probably is close, but for me it was the heaviest antivirus I've ever used after it started using around 95% CPU time!
WSA using 95% CPU? Doubt it very much. You might have had a bad install or an older version of it. I've been using it for a while and memory PWS is maybe only 3k. Not really sure where you come off saying its the heaviest AV you've ever used. Unless it was the first and only one.
Doubt it all you want, but it happened. Maybe it was a temporary glitch, I really didn't care to find out, I just uninstalled it immediately. I only had it installed briefly but up till then it was very light, just as many people have stated here. I'm guessing it was earlier this year, and I was using the current version at the time. It quite simple - it was using nearly all of my laptops CPU time. I've never seen any other AV use that much CPU time. However to be fair, I have seen some antiviruses cause massive slow downs without showing anything more than minimal CPU use. The heaviness I experienced has nothing to do with memory use. In fact, memory usage for an antivirus usually is only an issue if you haven't got enough RAM installed.
Your loss. Usually I give a program a couple of days to iron out any issues it may be having. To stray back onto topic, Baidu was having issue's with the updating and FP, I gave it till the next release. The update was fixed but didn't last for long.
I would have done the same if it hadn't made computer so slow it was practically unusable. In contrast I have not noticed any slow downs whatsoever since running Baidu. In reality, when running any antivirus with real time protection there are going to slowdowns, but with Baidu they are so insignificant that I don't notice.
After a reboot, I am now running 3.2.1.29578, and it is still updating. It is not the latest version, but it was the version which was installed after I rebooted, and the latest version is not being download by live update yet
Been using Baidu about 3 days, it finally updated the signature DB last night. I have a feeling Baidu relies mostly on cloud detection, not so much on signature DB. I'm starting to like this program, I hope they work the bugs out of it.
Good grief Baidu AV has just updated, first time for nearly 2 weeks. Running the latest Version 3.4.1.29680 VDb 27/5/2013 11.00.
My older version is still updating fine, but is not finding and download the latest program update. A question to people who are running the v3.4.1.29680 version, did you download it manually? Or was it downloaded via live update?
