No problem for me. No crash in google chrome. No internet slowdowns on Win XP 32-bit.

1.0.14 was working fine, but I have been having issues since the 1.0.15 update on my Win 7 x64 machine.
On booting the machine it will sit at the windows welcome screen for about 10 seconds (usually only 1-2 seconds) and then load a completely black desktop with a glitched taskbar.
Explorer.exe crashes as soon as I try and click anything and I have to manually end the process in task manager and run explorer.exe again a few times before it works properly.

Is somebody else experiencing loooong booting times on XP Pro (x86). It's weird cause I'm on a clean snapshot with no other security software installed...

    Hi there,

As mentioned by my colleagues already, in our attempt to design Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition as a minimalistic, set-and-forget solution, we went all the way, and automized the product 100%. But following your feedback, we are now introducing some basic functionalities so you can also tweak security to your needs, as Iulika0069 informed you already:

    • - The new Threat Control now allows you to add exceptions to items which Bitdefender considers suspect, but which you would still like to use. Simply right-click the file in listed in the Threat Control tab and the option will appear in a menu.

    • - If you want to access a webpage that Bitdefender considers dangerous, you can now continue at your own risk to that page. The option will also be remembered by the product for the current session, to ease your access.
    • - Other important updates include additional security levels added, compatibility with Comodo Firewall, and more frequent updates.

Hello, I am using Windows Firewall (with outbound control). If I am going to use Bitdefender Free, what files do I need to add the the allow rules of Windows Firewall? Thanks

That is not the idea behind Bitdefender Antivirus Free. :)

Start thinking about a different AV. BD Free might not be the one you are looking for.

Perfect! The only little issue I have now is the cleanup section is still showing after I updated to the new version. Not really a problem but not sure why it still shows.

Oh come on, it can't be that hard to add a simple ALLOW/QUARANTINE option for users that aren't 85 year old grandmas.

Does Bitdefender free update every hour? I know it's a cloud av but it uses sigs too.

That goes against their project design philosophy for BD Free. They want it as set-and-forget as possible, with minimal (or no) user interaction. They've stated this several times throughout the thread.

May I kindly ask, how ****ing large is the first update of Bitdefender Free? It's been an hour since it's "Updating" (I temporarily allow all outbound connections and already rebooted since the install)

After doing a repair install, now it updated in 5-10 minutes.

They can still do that, all they have to do is add an option that's disabled by default.

I noticed something when downloading files in Firefox (don't know if it also happens with other browsers, and I noticed this odd behavior in trafficlight before when I was still using it). When downloading files, the save as dialog box will not appear instantly (it will appear instantly when BD AV free is not installed). After a few minutes (or seconds depending on the file size) the save as dialog is shown and the file is saved in the disk instantly.

If you are afraid of false positives use another AV. :doubt:

That would still move them away from their design philosophy.. but you can always ask. :)

I think it's pretty functional as is right now, with the latest updates...

I don't think you're reading what people are saying to you. Bdav free isn't about users making choices it's about SILENT SECURITY! Now read s..l..o..w..l..y!
