I'm kinda confused...did Baidu just buy the English version of Kingsoft. On the Kingsoft Chinese website the antivirus is being updated quit a bit.It has a new UI & everything. Why can't these AV's just have one installer & the user just pick which language he/she wants.Instead of having 1 for English & 1 for Chinese.
I tried a slightly older version of BAV,& the it was using a lot more memory than Kingsoft 2012 ever did.
I'd rather have Kaspersky engine than Avira.I still might give it a try.Right now i have Avast Free.

The program is not as light as it used to be, when it was more cloud oriented. I remember in the Kingsoft forums a while back, users were complaining about the added girth since adding the Avira engine.

    very nice..

also was not able to update to the newer version with the update feature so I downloaded it...then clicked to install..it said Baidu was already installed do you want to reinstall and I said yes..everything went smooth and updated itself to the newest version without having to uninstall

just thought for those that dont want to go to the trouble of uninstalling and reinstalling you dont need to..

and yes no Beta tag anymore, liking this alot..good job

Baidu is very light on my rather weak PC. A great pro is its Avira component.

Should a new thread be started with the release of BAV final, or should we keep adding to this beta thread?

Why don't they have Avira realtime checked by default? This seems to be great once you turn that on. And best of all is that, unlike using Avira free, I don't get stuck in these nasty loops since I have a file/media server at home so the pcs have mapped network drives. And Avira Free doesn't work with network drives, so you get stuck in a loop when it detects something.....

I believe it is to make it as light as possible.

Aso it may be to improve compatibility with other antivirus software.

Sorry i have not read this thread in its entirety.
Has baidu been involved in any official tests etc.?

I have never heard of baidu but upon research it seems quite a large company with a good reputation.

I quite like the look of this AV.

So far I haven't found out wich these 10 mainstream products are anywhere on the Baidu website ;)

Edit: it doesn't matter to me but it may matter to others.

People say it's like Google but in China, it's a very popular search engine in China :)

    Re: Baidu Antivirus 2013 (Beta)

I have to add that I'm still very impressed with Baidu so far. I like that it downloads product updates automaically, and then gives the option to restart if you want to star using the new version. A much better approach than directing to you a website for you to manually download and install the update, and it means that I can install Baidu on clients computers and know that it will be automatically kept up to date.

I opened up Baidu yesterday and it suggest that I ran quick scan as I had not done so for a while. It did pick up one rogue that was sitting in my downloads folder, but not installed - but I was able to ignore it with just a single mouse click.

Some of the bigger AV vendors could learn from Baidu.

Also somewhat off topic, but Baidu PC Faster also updates automatically. I powered up a laptop I don't use much yesterday and PC Faster automaitcally downloaded and installed the new release - for PC Faster a reboot is not required.

Anyone else experiencing a lack of definitions updates? Since installing (2) days ago there's been no automatic updates. When I click on 'update' at the bottom of the GUI it connects with a message BAV up to date, with the date 5/13/2013 which is when it was installed. This concerns me. I've never had an AV that didn't update at least once daily.

That's what I thought, but you never know. :)

If you push the update button manually like 5-10 times in a row, then maybe it connects to another update server wich might work better if there's a problem with the server it tries to connect to.

What's interesting is your version is the same as other's I've seen with dates of 5/15 but your's is still showing 5/13. And mine on 5/13 was a lower version number.

    Re: Baidu Antivirus 2013 (Beta)

Earlier today after installing 3.4.1.29117 my update version was 13/4/2012. I kept clicking Update but it would say I was up-to-date. Something was obviously not right, so I uninstalled it, cleaned the registry with CCleaner, deleted the folders from Program Files (x86) and ProgramData, rebooted, and reinstalled. The virus database version is now 5/15/2013 7:56:27PM. Hoping that tomorrow it will update. If not, off it goes from my PC.

I actually like this AV, though. It also runs well alongside Windows Defender. I was surprised that Windows Defender picked up the eicar test file faster than Baidu Antivirus (about a second or two difference). Baidu was unable to catch the zipped eicar file while Windows Defender did.

    Later...

I tried clicking update at the bottom of GUI umpteen times, no joy! Uninstalled and reinstalled directly from Baidu's website. Still no update after installation, and manual update shows up to date 5/13/2013. And it reporting to the security center it is up to date. I'm thinking this program is buggy, at least for some people.

I just enjoy how Baidu is light on my weak office PC. I can write this post even during its scan. Oops! FP: Baidu AV identified notepad.exe as malware. Obviously it is not. Hm does anybody have FP from Baidu?

Both problems here. Installed Baidu, but it didn't update at all.
It also detected the K-lite codec pack as malware.
I couldn't submit it as a false positive because the Baidu website has a 5 MB file upload limit.
