thank you very much Rolllbackfrog and Isso for the clarifications

i really like the idea of this software. Something i hoped to see since long time.

i saw that AX64 is 30 days limited, what happen after?

My guess is that it stops letting backups/restores occur.

Isso, I've managed to capture the content of a cmd prompt that pops up and disappears very quickly at the end of the restore attempt. It says:

    Restoring 0% complete
    Last Error = 0xC1000102
Win Error: The system cannot find the path specified

    Thank you, Isso.

I am a new user who just learned about this great app from the "you know what" forum. Tried out the beta version and was impressed so far with the functionality as a replacement of Rollback Rx.

I have a question about the performance hit and data reliability of choosing to "store" the snapshot data in an external drive.

If my snapshot is very large, does it mean that the application must copy "all of the interval data changes" to the external drive for storage? What happens if I disconnect that external drive? Will it corrupt the ability to "revert" to an earlier snapshot even if that snapshot is not linked to the external drive data?

Also, for the external drive, if I need to make a clone of that drive, will there be a problem? Does AX64 use signature to "tie" that drive to the snapshot? If so, how I can clone the drive safely?

Lastly, will the use of other imaging program be permitted at the SAME time as AX64? For example, Rollback Rx and Acronis cannot co-exist to the extent that if Rollback Rx decides to take a snapshot in the middle while Acronis is running, Acronis will error out and the backup will abandon.

Hi Isso, I am another ex Rollback RX user. I have been running beta version 956 on my windows 7 64 bit machine for the past couple of weeks with no problems. One thing I would like to see is the option to delete more then one snapshot at a time. Thanks for a great program.

    guest,

Yes, as Zero3K mentioned, it will stop working. But no worries - we are planning to release the commercial version before that happens, and everyone who tried the program will receive a free license - just ping me at that time, and I'll send to you the 100% discount coupon. Thank you

    Hi HermitGeek,

Thank you for testing the program and for your questions.

For large snapshot - that's correct, if there are many changes since last backup, the snapshot size will be bigger. And certainly the program must copy all those changes to the target destination, because in contrast to snapshot programs, AXTM is really backing up the data.

If you disconnect the drive while backup is in progress, no problems will happen, albeit your backup will be cancelled. You can do it later when you connect the drive back. And certainly nothing will be corrupted.

For cloning the backup drive - it's absolutely not a problem, just copy the files from backup folder (AXTM) to the other drive - that's it.

For compatibility with other programs - we tested many imaging programs, and so far the only problem was with old Acronis version 2011 (aladdin reported it). New Acronis 2013 works fine with AXTM, and no problems with other software were found. You can even get it working with Rollback RX (with some limitations, see here, kudos to carfal)

    Hi Kit1cat,

Thank you for testing the program, the feature for multiple snapshot deletion had been requested multiple times, and I too find this limitation very inconvenient. So we'll be going to work on it soon.

As twl845 mentioned (thank you twl845!), there is a newer version available, please upgrade, because it fixes a number of bugs.

I've D/L and installed 1.0.967 on my Win7 64bit desktop and have had no glitches so far.

I think I'll try uninstalling and reinistalling to see how it goes.

I am/was a Rollback Rx user and installing and uninstalling seemed to take a LONG time with Rollback Rx.

Thanks for a great new program.

The last time I did an uninstall with Rollback Rx it trashed my machine and i had to do a clean install of the OS.

Luckily I had backed up my data, but i still lost all my programs which I am still trying to get loaded back on the machine.

Thanks, downloaded it a couple of days ago, just have not got around to trying it yet.

    Hi, Isso,

Amazing! Thank you for being such a responsive developer. Perhaps *that* company (*cough*) can learn a thing or two from you...

Further to my question about compatibility with other imaging programs... Many such programs "require" the drive to be locked when the drive is being backed up by them. Will this locking prevent AX64 from taking its own snapshots? Conversely, while AX64 is taking its snapshots (especially one that is particularly large and thus may take a while), will it "lock" the drive and prevent other imaging program from starting or continuing?

Another extension to the above question...

I use Windows Home Server (WHS) to do a centralized backup of all my drives across the network. Right now, I have to schedule Rollback Rx to "time out" during the few hours when WHS is running. This is because I found that WHS backup will "crash" or "error out" if Rollback Rx tries to take a snapshot when WHS backup is running... Will AX64 cause the same problem?

I have a fresh XP Pro install where I want to try this on. However, I just have one question, can I create an image with Reflect and then install AX64?, basically I want to have the ability to revert to the fresh image anytime I want. Or can I install AX64 and then create the Reflect image? Which way would be more convenient from your perspective? My snapshots would be saved to a different partition on the same HDD because I don't have a spare HDD at the moment.

    Thank you in advance.

Pratzert, ATXM's uninstall is just like any "normal" program... nothing unexpected happens.

BUT... when you unUNSTALL and (re)INSTALL, you will lose the continuity in your existing snapshots... you need to start from scatch from a baseline snapshot. If you install a new release over the top of a current release, that continuity WILL NOT be lost... things will continue as they did before. This will be the case with the released version. During BETA the snapshot format was changed once so that was not the case from the pre-changed version to the changed version.

Atomomega, either scenario will suffice just fine... one does not affect the other, I've done both using "Image For Windows" (IFW).

    TheRollbackFrog,

    Thanks for the clarification.

I knew the baseline would be reset, but I want to see how long it takes fro the uninstall. Seems like it took 45 minutes or more to do an uninstall of RB.

The time it took may have been dependant on how many snapshots I had, which were around 10 or so. I always tried to delete snaps when they started to add up.

I should have probably uninstalled and reinstalled more frequently. I did it in order to do a defrag.

I am hoping that AX64 TM will be quicker.

But does AX64TM suggest you unistall in order to do a defrag ?

    Dear Isso,

You have a beautiful signature. Which is:

    AX64 Time Machine

It would be nicer if it gives the version info too! Such as:

    AX64 Time Machine
    1.0.967 (Beta)

    Best regards,

    Mohamed

    Hi TheRollbackFrog,

Thank you for your reply. So if I install and take a few snapshots with AX64, but at some point I reimage to a pre-AX64 state, if my snapshots are saved to another partition, or drive, will they work after reinstalling AX64?

Send the archived logs (which you can get by clicking the icon in the upper-left hand side, clicking About AX64 Time Machine, and clicking Collect logs...) to infoNOSPAM@ax64.com (remove NOSPAM).

    Aladdin,

I decided to go ahead and install Acronis True Home 2013. I still get the Backup error C1000000A code 1 when I try to backup with AXTM.

I emailed Isso, and he has no idea why this is happening.

Very strange as I have no other problems with my machine. If you hear of a solution, please let me know.

    Thanks for your help,

    Silver0066
