I know there have been threads about this av before, but i thought seeing as we have a new version out and an imminent update,i thought we could take a fresh look at the comodo av and see what opinions we have on this.

I use the full suite and i dont need fantastic detection rates and comodo has several other layers of protection.
Comodo av is fairly new to the antivirus field and has evolved an awful lot throughout the years and in my opinion is quite a good av now.Perhaps not as strong as some of the bigger players but it is more effective now than from years gone by.
    Any thoughts or opinions please.?
    Thank You.

I test it every day against new malware and the detection has improved a lot.
It needs stronger generic signatures to decrease total number of definitions.
Lately I'm noticing better detection of adware.
Hope to see Valkyrie fully operational soon.

Its a pretty crappy product all around when it comes to real-world tests. See the results at

    http://www.av-test.org/en/tests/home-user/producer/comodo/

There Comodo: Internet Security Premium 6.0 scored a 84 out of 100 on the real-world test. That should tell you how poor they are for the average user. I would stay away.

    Thanks for your opinion.
It has HIPS and other goodies,so how can it be bad at pure protection.
Perhaps its not that hot at detection i will concede.

HIPS is not activated by default which is normal if Comodo wants to have more users ...

To reply to the thread: Yes Comodo AV is not that good in fact I must say their automated analysis systems/signatures generators are really powerfull.
Right now, only CAMAS generates signatures based on dynamic analysis of the behavior of the files
New one is coming (but when ? ...) it's called Valkyrie and it's even 5 times more powerfull than CAMAS with less FP...

The problem here is that they treated Comodo the same as the rest even though it doesn't function like the rest. To me it seems like they counted everything that got sandboxed as a miss. Because i highly doubt that so many stuff can effectively bypass Partially Limited mode, let alone any higher.

This test probably only tested AV component. Because anything i've seen so far it's just not possible to score this badly as a whole suite.

The immediate question I had about the AVT's results was not so much regarding the poor results of some, but instead the 100% scores of others.

Without going into specifics, I can assure you that for a couple of the 100 percenters one would have to really cherry pick new malware to get close to those results. This leads me to believe that something is flawed in their test setups.

For those that have neither the time nor desire to test for themselves, I consider ShadowServer to be a more reliable (and consistant) source to see if an AV is or is not worthwhile (keeping in mind that they test primarily with command-line-interface versions).

I wouldn't say that. Some malware detection systems are quite sophisticated and with cloud, they are very tough nut to crack for malware writers.

I used it before when I was using CIS6 and to be honest the Av was...lackluster. It was just way to basic to even be called a Av by today's standards.

    Same here.

I too test it a lot & the detection has improved a lot.

Waiting for Valkyrie to be implemented in the cloud as its detection is amazing with very very very few FPs. I also test Valkyrie with both safe & malware.

BB or AutoSandbox is there by default which is better & easy for most of the users.

Experts can always change the settings.

You guys cannot say that the detection has improved judging by daily tests with little samples set and i'm QUITE sure not widespread ...
Still, there is a huge problem with those FPs "regenerated" by CAMAS once the file's hash change.

We are sharing our experiences & what we think, just like you share your experiences with Avast new technologies & improved detection.

I've been using CIS for 3-4 years and see no reason to ditch it. Now I have it on all 4 PC I'm in charge of. I like sandbox in CIS 6.

    My thoughts exactly.
Unlike many other products, detection of malware is of far lesser importance, due to the virtualization technologies included.I too would be extremely surprised if the test system was truly compromised to the degree shown, more likely malware that was sandboxed was counted as a fail?

That isn't to say that Comodo doesn't have work to do on the detection side of things,if only because so many people obsess about percentages, rather than look at the bigger picture.

    Antivirus does not virtualize files.

Comodo doesn't virtualize anything, it just restricts. And even when they'll have Fully Virtualize, they'll have to apply restrictions, otherwise stealers will just virtualize needed sensitive storage files and submit all the stuff to a remote server...

I'm not afraid. With HIPS in safe mode and the behavior blocker set on "blocked" it's the best you can do with the Comodo Sandbox. Just don't allow anything foolish (Comodo alerts!...) on your pc and you'll be secured. Then in extreme cases any AV solution would fail against some keyloggers.

Obviously, it is a lie. If I put my browsers into the sandbox, some "Fully Virtualized", some "Partially Limited". And they are virtualized. When I reset the sandbox all changes disappear. So it virtualizes.

I have just updated to the new version,200 bug fixes and all.
I think it would be safe to say that comodo v6 was released a little bit too early with those amount of bugs present.
Lets just hope we have a better product to show for it.:D
