Why is Majorgeeks showing a new version when I check for updates on V2.0.5 it says that it is the latest version?

No idea. But, VLC website is displaying version 2.0.6.

But, I'm finding some hash values mismatches. No idea why.

This afternoon I went to their website (-http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html) and I download the .7z file. The website had hash values for the files, and I copy and pasted the hash value for the .7z file, which was MD5: 2ca6ca11ef2a8ac102702dc673eb8d01.

I downloaded the file and moments ago checked the hash value of the file and it is MD5: 765256199A157E849AB211305E529DB3.

    o_O

According to VirusTotal MD5: 2ca6ca11ef2a8ac102702dc673eb8d01 belonged to version 2.0.5.

Now, there are no hash values mentioned in the website, at all.

And, now the hash value for version 2.0.6 (*.7z file) is 4a1ba455e1f572abcbcb13d220af17a8. (According to NovirusThanks.org online service.)

    o_O

It differs from the hash value of the *.7z file I downloaded just moments ago.

    I wonder what's all about....

Somewhere I read 2.0.6 is only a release with minor fixes for 64 bits version.

Its not a 32 bits release.

    VLC 2.0.6 - 2013-04-11
    • 2.0.6 is an important update that fixes some regressions of the 2.0.x branch of VLC.
    • 2.0.6 introduces support for Matroska v4 files.
    • 2.0.6 also introduces an important number of fixes for MKV, Ogg, AVI, WMV, HTTPS and subtitles support. Fixes FLAC 6.1/7.1, ALAC, and Intel HD 2000/3000 GPU decoding on Windows are also present.
    • 2.0.6 also improves the Mac OS X, the D-Bus and MPRIS2 interfaces.
    • 2.0.6 uses a new compiler for Windows version, done by the MinGW-w64 project.
    • With faster decoding on multi-core, GPU, and mobile hardware and the ability to open more formats, notably professional, HD and 10bits codecs, 2.0 was a major upgrade for VLC.

But at that time VLC site too showed 2.0.5 version. Now the site is showing 2.0.6 version.

I think they have not released autoupdate yet.

I noticed this too. On the d/l page, they give the hash for vlc-2.0.6-win32.exe as SHA-1 checksum: 95157fcd449993cf0f6cb1a6810df3d4ef0eafa8

It doesn't match the hash for the file after I download it. Searched for and found the MD5 and it doesn't match either. I'm using HashTab 5.1 and the SHA-1 for v2.0.5 matches correctly with vlc-2.0.5-win32.

When I click on check for updates I get an error, whereas 2.05 would say it was the latest version.

I updated manually to 2.0.6 but had to revert to 2.0.5. VLC plugin didn't work in Opera 12.15 and on top of that the new build was very heavy on resources. I will keep away 2.0.6 for a while.

I only have 2.0.6 on my netbook anyway and am not using VLC at present so I will probably take it off. Should have retained a copy of 2.0.5 but didn't.

Has somebody observed any improvements since my last attempt (3 days back)? I don't want give it a try just to discover that CPU is still high and VLC plugin doesn't work in Opera.
