    I agree, a loose ballpark figure would be nice so the people don't lose interest.

    I started experiencing some pretty bad slow-down and flash player crashing when viewing video in Chrome with BD free enabled. I just tried disabling the Auto Scan feature and that seems to have made a difference, but will need more time to get a better read on it.

    I also have EMET installed and enabled, but nothing by Bitdefender set for scanning within EMET, so not sure about a conflict there.

    Three months ago, I tried BitDefender Free Antivirus. One of my biggest complaints was a very long scan on-demand time; therefore, I uninstalled it.

    I decided to try BDFA again and installed it on my Windows XP - 1 MG RAM computer. It was very easy to install and upgrade it.
    I tried to scan a small - 2 MB - file. BDFA accomplished it in 3 seconds (!).
    What a difference!
    Next, I tried to scan my Download Folder with 40 files - 67.00 MB.
    It took BitDefender Free 1 minute and 22 seconds to complete the scan.
    Just in case, it found several "false" positives. All of them related to flashplayer updates.

    =================================
    An On Demand scan has completed.
    The scan took: 00:01:22
    Files scanned: 2693
    Infected items detected: 229
    Files known to be clean: 17
    Scan Paths
    Path Status
    C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\Downloads completed
    Scan Results
    File Name Infection Action
    c:\documents and settings\User\my documents\downloads\install_flashplayer11x32axau_mssd_aih.exe...
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ========================================
    Next day, BDFA automatically did a full scan of my computer.
    ========================================
    Auto Scan has completed a Full Scan cycle on 4/17/2013 10:27:16 AM.
    Effective scan time: 00:33:36
    The scan took: 02:03:52
    Files scanned: 89170
    Infected items detected: 0
    Files known to be clean: 14206
    Scan Results
    No infected items have been found.

    ========================================

    When BDFA is idle, two processes - gzserv.exe = 11,423 KB и gziface.exe = 2,900 KB - don't put too much load on the system.
    While BDFA was doing a full scan, gzserv.exe went up to 66,000 KB.

    I have two questions.

    1. How BDFA was able to resolve the "scan-on-demand" problem?

    2. During some amateur tests, BDFA is always getting lower detection rates than Bitdefender Windows 8 Security.

    Bitdefender Windows 8 Security - detection rate 97,16%
    Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition 1.0.14.889 - 78,86%

    Why?

    CIS 6 new version (6.1.275152.2801) is out and changelog said:

    FIXED! Sandboxed Google Chrome does not open Web pages if CIS and Bitdefender installed

    so if someone use this combo (Chrome + CIS 6 + BD) issue seems solved

    BDFA does not use cloud while scanning On-Demand, only the local databse
    it uses a very limited(stripped down for lightness) malware database and cloud combination for real time protection.
    BDFA was never meant to be used as on demand scanner i think.

    This isn't quite accurate info.. ;)

    Both On-Access/VirusShield and On-Demand/AutoScan uses the full capabilities of the Bitdefender cloudAV engines.

    Does it mean that
    "Gonzales (bdavfree) stopped performing a full memory/processes scan before scanning the files/folders"?

    Yes, for the moment
    In the upcoming update (yeah, I know :D) we'll have a redesigned approach of the Memory/System scan (and new ideas implemented - for AutoScan and even OnDemand..)

    With the update taking this long I can only assume it's going to be great when they finish.

    Don't expect great things or you'll be greatly disappointed as well, when they won't arrive...

    Will you also be looking into the video slow-down (crawling, rather) issue when using Chrome with BD Free?

    Thanks for all you do :D

    Do you have anything nice or positive to say about any products at all.Maybe it would be a good idea for you to disconnect from the internet altogether and take up golf or something.
    Just a thought.:D

    I remember another test where Bitdefender IS had better detection than the free version. I think there must be a glitch in the free version or is it crippled by design?! :doubt:
