does anybody know of an alternative program to scandisk or chds (windows 7 builtin drive checker). it needs to be able to scan the boot drive and optionally create a log or pause to write down the error code or results.

the reason is i have been getting an error on boot and scandisk attempts to run and briefly flashes up an error code and message and fails to fix followed by a continues to boot as normal, but because the error hasnt been fixed it tries to scan again on the next restart and this continues until the error has been fixed which doesnt happen and repeats again.......

I think the results are saved in the event log.

    Cheers, Nick

    Hi Gazzer,

Are you still using Rollback Rx or the same program with a different name?

    Best regards,

You can use Puran Defrag and its Boot Time Defragmentation with options "check disk"

or use WinContig that offers disk checking before defragmenting

    Hi Gazzer,

I had a similar problem with Rollback Rx and I was pulling my hair out for days. Of course, HDS was not any help. It was due to low level drivers which conflicted with Rollback Rx and gave me the chkdsk error on booting. My low level drivers had to do with O&O DiskImage and BestCrypt.

Can you go to the following registry entry and post your low lever drivers the exact way they are listed in the order in the UpperFilters:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SYSTEM
    CurrentControlSet
    Control
    Class
    {4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    UpperFilters

The very first low lever driver in your case will be:

    Shield

In my case, here the low level drivers in their very order:

    phylock
    PartMgr
    fltsrv

    Best regards,

thanks for the reply but this was BEFORE rollback rx (or any rebranded / clones) and after i had finished installing drivers and the usual stuff, but unknown to me a program had caused an error and i only found out the next time i restarted after i had already installed many progs, so on the next restart CHDFSK (windows 7 builtin scanner) it tried to scan and found a problem which it couldnt fix and aborted scan and carried on booting before flashing an error message. thats why i assumed it didnt create a log or report, and needed a different checker ti fix it.

Download windows 7 manager trial version for windows 7 OS and click 'repair centre' and under General repair
sub menu system repair (III) click the 'FIX' option to cancell the check (chdsk) every time windows start.. I too was getting the same sympton as you had described earlier. On using this I am not getting the irritating chkdisk warning. For windows 8 OS you can download win 8 manager trial version please.
