Extras downloaded on installation - removal

I see there was a ~38meg "PKG" folder, and a ~15meg "lptmp..." folder created upon installation of WSA, along with several IE toolbar entries.

Is it quite safe to remove these uneccessary extras that were downloaded without my knowledge, without impacting the general running of WSA.

IE is not installed and Lastpass or storage/syncing will never be used here - so these unusual extras that appeared seem to be redundant in this case.

(I do realise I could "just leave them" - but I wish to remove them.)

 

I delete them as I don't use the tool-bar/password/sync & it seems without any consequences - My PC's haven't exploded yet - Don't faff with the data folder in 'Program Data' though

Yes, those are the Lastpass components. You can safely remove them without a problem - just ensure you disable them in the browser first.

Thanks Joe for confirming, I never even saw the toolbars anyway with using PaleMoon exclusively...just giving the SSD a short back & sides.

 

On a Vista Business 32-bit sytem with IE 9 , If I disable all 3 addons in IE - webroot, webroot toolbar, webroot vault will protection level of WSA Complete be affected ?
I dont need lastpass or backup sync in WSAComplete just need malware protection

Sounds like a downgrade would be a good choice for you, so you don't need to disable the features that you don't use

 

Is there anything in the IS/Complete version that you use above and beyond the AV-Only version? If not, I'd recommend just going with the AV version instead of IS or Complete to save the confusion of disabling things.

I personally wouldn't disable Webroot itself, as that addon is not a toolbar IIRC. That's the AV's quick and easy view into the browser operations to secure them. It will still get a view anyway, but no quick and easy, and that impacts performance a touch.

 

If I enable webroot addon in IE , it automatically pops up a window asking if want to enable these two addons( webroot toolbar, webroot vault ) - I just unchecked these two.

Is it OK having just webroot addon in IE9 ? I mostly use other browsers (Chrome, Palemoon, Opera).

As it stands today, all of the browser addons are only Lastpass - the actual protection is provided via means other than a browser extension. This will be changing with the 2014 product, but the difference between the two will remain clear so you'll be able to disable Lastpass without disabling the overall protection.
