    Hi everyone!

Did anyone test this product? It's supposed to work similar to Deepfreeze. It restores the System on reboot and if you have to update Software you can just turn it off then go ahead and update your Software and then turn it back on. No Need to reboot. Then it says "This will be your new baseline then". I assume this is more like a snapshot program but very limited but I Kind of like the fact that it's kept so damn simple. It does not even have an Interface. It just Shows up as a tray Icon where you can check to restore the System on reboot or not.

Another Thing I noticed is that it loads before the OS so I assume that it modifies the MBR which might not be a good Thing for everyone. I think HorizonDataSys likes to modify MBR for their products....

Anyway has anyone tested this product yet? Is it on the same Level as deepfreeze Quality wise?

With Toolwiz Time Freeze I do that exactly.

Without mess MBR - what is something that is crucial to avoid conflits with others app.. (RRRx uses HOME key to open a Sub-console).

P.S.: Both TTF and RRRx are Freeware.

I would like to see a test against the usual nasties like TDL4, Sinowal etc and if it does any better than it's competitors...

As I'm having some issues with Deep Freeze currently I might just use something else and this Looks pretty interesting actually. Like I said I like how simple it is and that you can update your machine without having to reboot. I'm a Little concerned about the mbr being modified. I guess Hitman Pro would probably say it's malicious if you scanned with it.

It seems useful for who want try and/or to use Reboot Restore Rx [RRRx], these notes:
Reboot Restore Rx is a freeware utility developed by Horizon DataSys. This free utility was created in response to the many requests submitted to us by small school systems and libraries that have limited budgets who were looking for a replacement for Microsoft's SteadyState and other commercially available products.

    1. Software installed, you got your baseline!

As soon as the software is installed and the machine has rebooted, you got your baseline! Reboot Restore Rx will restore your PC back to that system state on every reboot.

    2. Update your Baseline

Wanna do changes to your system and keep those changes? No problem. The process of updating the baseline is very simple and straight forward with Reboot Restore Rx.

    1- Disable the Restore Option
    - Right Click the System Tray Icon
    - Select Restore on Reboot (Uncheck it)
You are ready to do your updates and changes!
    2- Update Baseline
    - Right click the System Tray Icon
    - Select Restore on Reboot (Check)
    Your system has been updated!

    3. Recover from Sub-console or Mini OS.

In Reboot Restore Rx you have another great capability. You can restore your system to a baseline even if Windows crashed and you can't get into it.

We do this from the sub-console:

    - Reboot your system
    - Before Windows you will get the splash screen
    - Press the HOME key repetitively to get into the Menu
    - Select Restore Now
    Done!

It's that easy to instantly recover from any OS crash! You will get your system back in seconds.

    Conclusion

Reboot Restore Rx is a free application that was designed, developed and published with small budget organizations and end-users in mind, that just want to restore their machines to a perfectly working state on every reboot without having to pay anything.
We know that the market has been looking for a replacement for the discontinued Windows SteadyState and other applications out there are too pricey or not nearly as advanced.

USA still the best. But barely.
Is this operation is password or otherwise protected? Otherwise that's a fatal flaw as far as usage by small school systems and or libraries.

When I tested it yesterday im vmware there was no Password Option. I was suprised as well because they specifically advertise that this program would be used by Schools, libraries and whatnot for public Computers. Without a Password protections anyone who intentionally wants to screw up the Computer can do so. This program Needs to have Password protection as it doesn't have a GUI so it can't elevate and ask for admin privileges....:doubt:

This program (RR Rx) is a ploy to sell Rollback Rx.

Basically, RR Rx program is a subset of Drive Cloner Rx, and Drive Cloner Rx itslef is a subset of Rollback Rx with reduced functionality. With Rollback Rx, one can have lots of snapshots including the baseline snapshot. One can then reboot Rollback Rx with any snapshot. Where as Drive Cloner Rx, always boots into only one snapshot, which is the baseline snapshot. Drive Cloner Rx has password and so forth. But with reduced functionality of Rollback Rx, where it is required to boot into the same state on daily basis.

RR Rx has much reduced functionality than Drive Cloner Rx. In my humble opinion Rollback Rx is one of the crappiest program on the market and again in my humble opinion HDS is an unethical company. This is from personal experience.

Shadow Defender is much better program for light virtualization. One can boot into the same state on a daily basis.

    Best regards,

In "About", it gives option to purchase two programs:

    1. Drive Cloner Rx
    2. Rollback Rx.

It is well proven that Rollback Rx doesn't protect the MBR. It is only marketing hype.

    Best regards,

P.S. RR Rx kept on crashing my Win 8 in Vmware.

aladdin, I believe that you meant Drive Vaccine rather than Drive Cloner Rx; the latter being a disk-imaging program (DCRx is actually a Keriver Image knock-off). If Drive Vaccine was substituted for Drive Cloner Rx in your post (#13) I would completely agree with everything you said. ;)

Based on my (disastrous) experience, I think 'misrepresentation' is more fitting than saying it's 'only marketing hype'!

I know there's another thread here on Wilders which is about Rollback Rx and I read some negative comments there that the program can basically screw up your Computer. I used Rollback Rx on Windows 7 some time ago and the only downside I had was that the snapshot somehow took away quite some amount of diskspace while HDS advertises that the snapshots are very small...Also I don't really get why it can't handle rootkits when it works below the Windows Environment with a mini OS. Also I think those snapshot programs aren't good for daily restore because you basically have write operations to your harddisk on every restart. I think programs like deepfreeze and shadowdefender and whatnot work differently. Changes that occur to the System aren't really written to the disk but are redirected to a virtual space and discarded on reboot so I think These programs are also better for SSD's because you won't have many write operations to your disk...

So after all I might just stick to Faronics Deepfreeze and see what the Support can do...They already told me the reason for my issues with Deepfreeze. The current Version has Problems with large harddrive. It can't handle my 3TB HDD and simply sets it to frozen although I configured it as a thawspace but I think I can handle that. It's still a very decent program.:thumb:

Thanks aladdin to share your experience and opinions on Rollback Rx and HDS...

Absolutely, but that's comparing payware to freeware (which isn't really fair), so I'll say that Toolwiz Time Freeze is a far superior (free) LV program!

You are absolutely correct. Actually, Reboot Restore Rx is a dumbed-down version of Drive Vaccine (which, in essence, is based on the Rollback Rx engine).

Me too. But from the latest tests I saw on all VR softwares incl. time freeze and shadow defender on youtube with TDL4, Sinowal and 3 other MBR/rootkits, they all had a failure on atelast one. Shadow defender failed on Sinowal, while time freeze failed on TDL4. Other failed similar and some failed on more on them. Its available on youtube and the dude does a great job of testing these nasties with these apps.

so far the only app Is aw that stopped all was sandboxie. when the same guy tested sandboxie by running all these nasties in sandboxie and also online nasties, nothing made it through.

    Dear Cruise,

I absolutely agree with you. Being sixty years old, dementia is rapidly setting in. :)

    LOL! Just kidding!

Mr. Keriver is a member of this forum and I own the 1-Clk Restore PRO, which I bought when he gave a special discount to Wilder's members.

    Best regards,

    Mohamed

I don't see an updated SBIE test - with the same group of 5 MBR/VBR rootkits (I asked him to do that a month ago, but nothing so far)...
