    Re: Baidu Antivirus 2013 (Beta)

    I tried shadow mode today started from desktop with baidu and didnt see any ill effects after rebooting.When i set sd to start in shadow mode with windows (rather than enabling it from desktop)i did experience a few anomalies such as login files corrupted messages and spamihilator couldnt load because file couldnt be found.I didnt have any boot problems though and not starting in shadow mode with windows fixed the anomalies i was having.I also run outpost firewall so would expect a few problems with sd as i havent excluded anything.i suspect having sd installed first may help running it with baidu.

    Thank you for testing. That's good news as I use SD on-demand only. Wil give it a spin soon.

    I thought I would try out this update. What I found is that it will not update the sigs at all. It says that they are up to date already and the date says March 7th. Can't use or trust Baidu. See attached.

    Re: Baidu Antivirus 2013 (Beta)

    After installation it was "recommending" to run a Quick Scan, which I did, but after 1hr and 52 minutes and still at 78% I thought it was not that Quick. I stopped it, rebooted, then felt a bit of lag. So I uninstalled it.
    Anyone else experienced slow scans?

    No it's working fine for me. I just did a quick scan and it took 6 1/2 minutes.

    I've had no issues so far with Baidu.

    Re: Baidu Antivirus 2013 (Beta)

    Baidu running perfectly here with no issues at all and updating no problem. Avira enabled and cloud enabled and my last quick scan was about 22 secs. It seems to get quicker after the first few scans.

    Started time: 21/03/2013 11:48:29
    Elapsed time: 00:00:22
    Version of virus signature database: 21/03/2013 11:28:59
    Scan type: quick scan
    Status: completed

    Re: Baidu Antivirus 2013 (Beta)

    Last night, I started a full scan of my XP computer (Avira engine turned off).
    (Some amateur tests showed a strange thing - the detection rate for Baidu AV without Avira Engine was slightly higher than with Avira on).

    This morning, Baidu was still scanning.
    I stopped it. Here is the report:

    Baidu.PNG

    Baidu Beta is still too buggy.

    This is what happened to me with the Quick Scan, however I had Avira turned on. I didn't let Baidu complete the test.

    SO is it better to have avira engine on or not? Which one results a higher proactive detection rate?

    Re: Baidu Antivirus 2013 (Beta)

    At this moment, Baidu AV Beta is VERY INCONSISTENT, full of various bugs and false positives. During several tests, the detection rates for Baidu without Avira were, indeed, about 2% higher than with Avira on, but until we get the real Baidu AV (not Beta) it does not matter.

    One more thing.
    While scanning my XP computer,
    BAV.exe showed 96% of CPU use (therefore, CPU use was 100%) and only 8,280 K of RAM,
    BavSvc.exe - 2% - CPU and 76,792 K - RAM,

    Without scanning:

    BavSvc.exe - 13,400 K - RAM,
    BavTray.exe - 6,536 K,
    BHipsSvc.exe - 6,108 K.

    Re: Baidu Antivirus 2013 (Beta)

    i tested it today after @zmechys words,
    i dont know how can i describe it but this software isnt stabil on my test.

    how i test it;

    1-i packed about 5000 malware using zip
    2-i open them when baidu is active. so baidu dedect malware files. (i didint run malware files, just i extract zip)
    3-i remove dedected malware, and i scan again folder with right scan

    Test 1;
    Default settings; avira off
    real time dedection; 2542, it leaved 3034 files
    right click result; 3105, it leaved 117 files.

    Test 2;
    Avira on
    real time dedection; 2260
    righ click: 2922, it leaved 496 files!!!

    Test 3;
    i scanned 2 folder which is used tes1 and test2 with righ click scanner again,
    baidu remove 461 threat;
    now folder 1 has 117 file left, folder 2 has 116 file.
    i rescan both nothing changed.

    Result with default settings;
    1- we can say for his test, score higher without avira
    2- we can say product isnt stable

    Note; i tested it with default settings. so "file system protection" was "standart". now i tested again with "strict" setting, real time result is different.

    with avira on realtime; 5468 file dedected, it leaved 131 file, after right click scan, 116 files left
    without avira on realtime; 4818 file dedected, it leaved 718 file, after right click scan, 116 files left.

    Result Update;
    1-we can say with avira, baidu has better dedectionb rate if you are using strict protection.

    i dont know what is different between "standart" and "strict" and why dedection rate is different.
    Also i didint run file, maybe it can dedect on standart mode when i run file.

    Update 2; Yes, it can dedect when file run. But file can run before dedection. it remove file but malware already running. it remove again running file. So i recommend "strict" mode if it is possible for you.

    These results don't surprise me. A while back when I was using/testing Kingsoft (no Avira), it usually did pretty well. I recently tested Baidu with Avira on, and it didn't do so hot.

    Re: Baidu Antivirus 2013 (Beta)

    From amateur tests, Kingsoft 2013 (Chinese version) had always about 8%
    better detection rates than Kingsoft 2012 (English version).
    Baidu AV entered the same tests with a lower score than even Kingsoft 2012 AV, and have not moved up since then.

    Again, it's only Beta.

    I am not testing this until I know the company is stable. I put Kingsoft on so many computers because I thought it was, now I have to remove them.
