On Vista Home Premium 32 bit BetterPrivacy will not delete the flash cookies on close of Firefox or on start. The only way it work is by the timer. Has anyone had this issue

Can you post a screen shot of your settings? Also are the cookies being left over on the exception list under Privacy?

    Here it is
The only one that works is the timer. If timer unticked nothing is deleted
    there is no exception list

My apologies for the late reply, I've been out sick. Not sure what I've contracted. I thought it might be a cold at first, but when it cleared up on Thursday it was followed up by sever stomach pains the next morning. Those have fortunately stopped, so I'm hoping this is a sign it's passing. Anyways, I don't see anything setting wise to explain why it's not deleting the cookies. I didn't see anything online to suggest a compatibility issue either. The only solution that comes to mind would be to uninstall the add-on and try a clean reinstall.

Why not check "Add LSO item to Firefox "clear history" dialog and settings"? That way they are cleared at shutdown.. Plus.. you can also open a new tab, close the previous tab, go to tools "clear recent history" and choose everything, which includes flash cookies.

why not simply use selfdestruct cookies , flash cookies are handled like any other cookie in the more recent firefox builds, no need for perfect privacy no more, unless ive missed something

Nope. I tested self destruct cookies and it will not handle flash cookies. At least not all of them. That's why I run better privacy and self destructing cookies together.

As for the OP, I have experienced exactly same problem. I have noticed that flash cookies were left behind. I did a lot of experimenting and I also noticed that the only time when flash cookies are left behind is when I close Firefox browser without closing the tab first. Try it. Close the tab with the flash content and then close the browser. Weird but it works for me.

SDC removes cookies while you browse, but the last cookies stored before you close the browser will not be removed until the browser is next opened. This isn't the case for better privacy which deletes on exit. I had complained about this to the developer as a potential bug, only to find out that they were being deleted before SDC had the chance to remove them.

anyhow ive tested it per caspians settings and lsos get removed perfectly , good to know perfect privacy isnt as redundant as some members here think afterall , guess ill keep it , and yes sdc destructs cookies while browsing wich i like alot and is a must have and when you exit your browser you got your settings to autoremove the remaining cookies anyhow i asume as do i , not to mention having cookies and some other annoyances including the browser exe itself virtualized to protect from threats and to not even have one single cookie touch your hdd as should be anyhow ;)

My way of dealing with flash cookies is very simple.
I created an empty Macromedia file with notepad and placed it in the "AppData-Roaming" folder. I deleted the Macromedia folder and renamed my Macromedia.txt file to just Macromedia.
    NO MORE FLASH COOKIES.

But what about Facebook, Myspace, banks, forum?

I have not had any issues logging to any of those sites for more than a year.

or if you come across something that requires them like youtube , just do a full virtualization aka sanboxing of certain browser files as said , works a charm as well ;), still gona keep BP just for fun thou and SDC is epic and anybody that takes tracking seriously should use it no doubt about it , just too bad it hasnt been out for FF earlier

    @ happyyarou666 et al

Re - LSO's = Local shared objects = Flash cookies

Hotmail/Outlook uses them. I see between 1 & 7 stored on my HD, every time  As indicated by BetterPrivacy. For eg,

    a.png

    My settings

    bp1.png

It shows 904 in total since install, but 0 AutoRemoved ? But they are when i close FF, or flush them out !

I have an Outlook account. No problems.

    Outlook_Macromedia.PNG

I'd like to find any reason for not using my method.

Saw the same here, but it says since *very recent time*
I closed FF and BP removed the flash cookies, launched FF and it shows 2 removed. btw the wording is not very clear. Both counts are about AutoRemoved LSO's.

I remember reading that many versions of Firefox ago now that it handles LSO's & Flash cookies just like any other cookie now. So if you set cookies to autodelete at browser close it should delete them too without any need for the Better Privacy addon... which would seem to make it pretty obsolete now, unless I'm missing something?

Also I set my Flash Player settings to block storage to begin with. And also have both my FF options & CS Lite Mod to deny all cookies globally to begin with. And when I need to allow 1'st party cookies do so only temporarily, until browser closes. I block DOM storage via about:config

I'm also running my sessions sandboxed as well, so it's not like any of it would remain on my box regardless. But even without Sandboxie none of it would stick with the above measures.

Better Privecy works for me 100% of the time. Like I said, you can't close the browser right the way. You have to close the tab first. I also got BP set to delete cookies every 15 seconds if they aren't use. I tested and both options work as advertised.
I tried the other guys proposal to let FF manage my flash cookies. This conflicted with Self Destructing Cookies addon. Although it did work too.
