    Subscription products, that's a fact.

I wonder if Bitdefender released it's own free-cloud-av only to get more submissions to it's cloud from around the world and not just from Romania.

Yeah, that could help them too... seems that the free product users will just have to be very patient... I'm using something else until I feel this one is ready.

There's a bug in BD Free that keeps bugging me: Every time I boot, the update process runs and the tray icon notifies me about a product update, which gets applied automatically and asks me to reboot. If I don't reboot, the popup keeps popping up until I do. So this has been pretty annoying. I was told by PM this was gonna get fixed, but considering the delay, I really had enough. I sincerely like the product overall and the performance but it's clearly not a moneymaker for BD, and thus development can't be demanded.

If anyone wants to uninstall it, here's the removal tool from BD: hxxp://www.bitdefender.com/files/KnowledgeBase/file/BD_Free_Uninstall_Tool.exe

I hope they grow it stronger. I'd definitely come back and use it again once it's more mature.

Are we still waiting after almost 3 months for a simple restore feature? I too have come to the conclusion that BD Free is lowest on the totem pole of priorities. I understand that from a business standpoint, but it must be said that there's a pretty good chance they are losing out on future paying customers by barely supporting this. I keep checking here, and when I do comment it seems a little harsh and impatient, yes. But, eventually you've got to "put up or shut up" and that just isn't happening yet.

Been working flawlessly for me to,I had the update issue with the paid version asking to reboot, and that got a fix within a day but that was some time ago

That could be the reason the free version is taking so long, all the people at BD are busy fixing the Paid version :argh:

BD Free excels at blocking harmful websites.

    +1
I keep 'checking in' but leave just the same.
If it wasn't Bitdefender, I have a hard time believing that people would be so willing to overlook the lack of a quarantine/restore function. I think they're getting somewhat of a "free pass" and I really don't think they deserve it.

I was going to mention something similar, but didn't want to sound rude/harsh. :p Even Microsoft realized that with version 4 the automatic deletion of files would be problematic, which is why they reintroduced the Default Actions back in the preview versions, back then, and made it to the final release.

It's 100% stupid not to be able to decide what to do with an "infection". Those wanting automatic cleaning, it's there, so have it, but those wanting to decide, let them decide.

Is it so dificult to design it this way? Come on... o_O I'd never try and buy the paid product, if the free version made me unhappy. Why trust this company, if they offer a free product, but don't give it much importance? No trust.

I assure you that we are working as hard as we can on this project.

Beside small or not-so-small issues, BD AV Free is still a rich-feature anti-virus, a reliable product (including no deletion of any file anymore), stable enough (we/you should start a survey on wilders?), top detection, light on resources, and has a non-intrusive behavior (with good and bad)

50%+ of our work in the last months was to align wilders needs/ideas/complains - and we thank you for this; therefore, I'll ask you for a little more patient ;)

I, for one, am watching this one with interest.
Get it right rather than release whilst half baked.

Iulika0069....I appreciate your efforts to keep those of us interested in the Bitdefender line of products informed, and to calm our concerns and reassure everyone as to what is happening with the development of the "Bitdefender free" version. And I can definitely see why so many companies are reluctant to give any approximate or ETA dates. Because once you tell a customer (or prospective customer) a date to expect something.....once that date arrives and the product isn't as promised, you have unhappy customers. That much I definitely can understand.

However....something like a basic restore feature doesn't seem like something that would/should take a quarter of the year to fix or correct! For a product that AV-Comparatives rates as "THE BEST", and other sites that review your product seem to consider among, if not THE best...I'm almost kind of shocked that a company with specialists, programmers and technicians capable of producing 'THE BEST" antivirus product is incapable of producing a product that has a simple quarantine restore function/feature in a somewhat timely fashion.

And THAT is why so many people (including myself) seem to think that the "free" version is being given the little red-headed step child/back seat treatment. Otherwise, it's kind of hard to accept that this "PROBLEM" hasn't been resolved by now.

I am very happy with Bitdefender Free AV as it's extremely light on resources and actually stops just about malware. What I like the most is the URL-filtering... that's extremely effective. No need för Norton DNS anymore!

I am using another Free AV right now but I let the license go down to 8 hours before it was due to expire in hope of Bitdefender releasing the new free edition. So I am looking forward to the BD Free release.

No but the Free license that you need that you need for the software to work past the evaluation period does.
