No, but they can be quite common depending on what you like to download.

Keygen are likely to contain malware and I think that's why Bitdefender heuristically (is that a word?) detects them. When I was a teenager 10 years back I frequently used those keygens, but never got infected... but I've seen several cases over the last few years where users got infected by seemingly valid and good keygens. I'd rather have Bitdefender block all of them than a few of them. But then again, I don't see a reason to download a keygen in the first place.

That's simply not true. However some websites that distribute keygens and cracks have been known to include malware along with the keygen in the same zip file.

Keygens and cracks are detected by security software for the simple reason that there are keygens and cracks for security software that let you use it without paying for it.

Add to that the fact that many keygens have characteristics similar to that of malware (eg. packed, obfuscated, etc).

Keygens are absolutely harmless if you know where to get them. And you can always run them sandboxed to be extra safe. There's no reason for an AV to detect, let alone automatically quarantine, them. An AV's job is to detect harmful files, not files the company finds inconvenient.

Not everyone is willing to waste money on something they can get for free.

That ~ Snipped as per TOS ~. If it's not malware, then why the hell are you detecting it?

Most vendors nowadays put these into the PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) category. So it's not flagged strictly as malware.

Don't worry about the last update, as long as you are connected to the cloud you should be fine.

I don't know about that. I've seen a lot of "Trojan" and "Riskware" detections.
PUPs should include stuff like adware and maybe toolbars, i.e. stuff that might actually pose a threat, not keygens.

Yes - they often are detected solely on the basis of them being compressed - as malware is often compressed to help avoid detection.

Yeah....and it would be nice if it was released soon so that this thread can get back on topic. Kind of tiresome to see a whole page and dozens of posts dedicated to the subject of "keygens"

FYI scroll down to the bottom of the wilders start page where you will see "current active users" and you'll see the members names and if Iulika0069 would be online you would be able to see that there HTH :)

Or that yes, but then one also need to look up a post by that member in order to see it afaik, wich may not be as easy to find as scrolling down to the bottom IMO but either way will work for sure ;)

Just to cover all ways....one could also make a search for that member name and in the profile you would also see the check mark that you mention :p Like siketa= https://www.wilderssecurity.com/member.php?u=130718

It looks like my prediction relative to the preview launch kit was a bit optimistic; we still need a few more days (other external events delayed us a bit)
