    Hi :)

I have been using KIS (latest version) for almost a year and experienced no slow-down on my PC. But now, since about 7-10 days ago my PC has become noticeably slower, particularly on surfing the web (some pages that used to load quickly now take several seconds and it can take ten seconds to open a file from an icon on my desktop. I have tested my internet speed using a reliable speed test and it is fast as it ever was.

So I am asking to find out if other KIS users are having similar issues so I can determine whether the cause is a recent change in KIS or something else on my PC.

    @hawki.
Ive used kaspersky myself and its a great product.Just a stab in the dark here but i understand they released a patch recently so maybe that could be a cause.
Sorry if that is not much use.I never experienced that when i used it.

As B1770 has mentioned Patch F was released recently and there have been a spate of notification over at the KL Forum in relation to issues found. One in particular that I have experienced is the periodic Rootkit scan stalling/never completing and still draining resource when the scan is apparently stopped.

There are a couple of simple workarounds for this either of which that need to be applied periodically to get over the problem temporarily.

May be worth a look over at:

    http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showforum=4

for further details and any others that may be a suspect in your case.

Could there be a possibility some malware got passed and are eating cpu cycles?

Have you tested your DNS servers to see if they are having issues? That will slow down general browsing without affecting your bandwidth, so a speed test will not reflect DNS issues.

I just checked the Kaspersky forum and many users are experiencing the same issues that I have and that it has only recently occurred.

The moderators are recommending something like removing the data base with a special tool. I don't understand the instructions so as of the moment I will wait for further clarification of the tool and how to use it. The moderators have not done a good job at explaining this IMHO, but some of those who have done it say that it works. Until then I will bear with it a little longer and then junk it, an approach some other KIS users are taking. Some have already started using other products.

    Hi:)

No I have not but the problem is much larger than just using the internet: it is affecting the opening of files and apps. It's a major issue.

BTW: I am using Windows 7. There are other major issues being reported with KIS and Windows 8.

Seems as though Kaspersky has dropped the ball here within the past week or so.

Evidently similar issues have effected the End point Versions also:

"Kaspersky apologizes for antivirus update that continues to disrupt customer nets

Network World - Kaspersky Lab's flawed anti-malware update that went out Feb. 5 for the Kaspersky Endpoint Security product continues to cause serious disruptions in enterprise networks.

And Kaspersky, which has released ensuing patches aimed at remedying the problems caused by the first bad update, is apologizing for the ongoing problems.

"Upon receiving feedback from customers, Kaspersky Lab is working to remedy stability and performance issues associated with the recent autopatch 'b' released on February 5, 2013," Kaspersky said in a statement to Network World last night.

BACKGROUND: Bad antivirus update prevents business and home users from accessing websites

"Customers have reported issues that include: long log-in times; slow launch of third-party applications, unavailability of Kaspersky icon in tray and, in rare cases, Internet Explorer crashing. The problem is affecting random machines running Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems with Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 for Windows 8.1.0.831 installed. These issues are an unacceptable inconvenience and burden to the productivity of our customers but they do not affect the security of their systems."

do the following and see if it speed things up:
settings > web antivirus > settings > under General tab UNCHECK "use heuristic analysis" click ok through window's and restart your browser.

As I mentioned earlier...check under the KIS Task Manager to make sure that you do not have a Rootkit Scan that is running. If you do then there are a couple of workarounds that you can try.

I'd say to try first what Baldrick have just said above, but it that doesn't fix your issue just uninstall it momentarily to find out if K is really the culprit. As for any other security solution.

Interesting. I currently have it on 2 Windows 8 machines while I wait for ESET to fix their issues. I have not noticed any problems with KIS 2013 other than them being unwilling to keep up with Firefox updates. I rotate between 3 products and it seems at any given time at least 2 of them are having some kind of issue that just makes me tempted to do all of my internet browsing though Linux. :doubt:

I tried the fix recommended by the forum mod at kaspersky and it worked.

It can be found near the bottom of this thread:

    http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=247874

Basically you download a zip folder and unzip it to a new folder. Open that folder run the program and click "Dump" and restart the pc and run the usual update. It works :)

There are various zip downloads corresponding to your KIS/KAV version and they are listed in the above-linked thread.

Odd that an update problem would only affect some users rather than all. Doesn't that make it sound as though the update has a conflict with some other software or system option?

I haven't had any issues with 2013. Lucky I guess.
