    Hello Everybody,

I have just upgraded to windows 8 PRO 64 bit and try to harden it with the use of Group Policy editor. I had successfully implement it on windows 8 32 bit explained in this thread:
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=2112680&postcount=7

After set the default level to Basic User, I found some program blocked, mostly from folder "program files(x32)" so, I guess 32 bit program being blocked.

    office 2010
    google chrome
    Internet explorer

I am not sure what is wrong with it but it was work in windows 8 32 bit. So temporary I leave default security level to unrestricted until I figure out, what is wrong.

    Any input?

    Thank you,
    HP

  2. Something must be wrong I thought the 32 bits Program Files folder was named
C:\Program Files (x86), so problably a wrong install when you mention C:\Program Files (x32)

    1. Add a rule to Software Restrictions Policies for

PATH rule for C:\Program Files (x32) UNRESTRICTED

When they are really installed in x32, otherwise do the same for

PATH rule for C:\Program Files (x86) UNRESTRICTED

oops my mistake, it is Program Files(x86).

Thanks for your suggestion, after given it unrestricted right, all program runs fine except internet explorer, I do not use it much but just for curiosity, Do I also do the same and give unrestricted rights? (I think it is not a good idea).

Right now I am enjoying window hardening tricks provided by you in this forum.:thumb:

I just copied the C:/Program Files registry key, present by default in SRP Additional Rules, and just added (x86) to the end like this...

    %HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ProgramFilesDir (x86)%

I'm surprised Microsoft left that one out. It's listed in the registry. Oh well.

    Later...
