IE10 64 bit online tracking protection

It seems that IE10 has two options for tracking protection:
1) Addons ---> Tracking Protectiong --> Get a tracking protection list online... Abine standard list
2) You download Abine DNT+ for IE
What is exactly the difference between these two? I know one is a list and the other is an addon. Do they work exactly the same

 

So what is the difference between the Abine DNT+ addon and the Abine list?

 

Hmmm thank you. It looks like the addon is a more complete solution.

 

As I recall, the DNT+ addon takes up some space in memory, but I don't see the TPL list anywhere in memory.

Do Not Track (DNT) is totally different from Tracking Protection Lists (TPL).

One advice: Do not run both TPLs and addons together.

I know for a fact that TPLs won't work; I'm not sure if addons will function properly, as I've not investigated it yet. But, I do recall that when AVG LinkScanner had the component/addon Do Not Track, it would detect if TPLs were enabled and disable itself.

I believe that DoNotTrackMe won't check if TPLs are enabled, and therefore won't disable itself.

 

I've asked MS Answers, let's see what they come back with.

From what I gather, TPL's under IE 10 will no longer be supported. Yet to be determined ....

@7anon - I have no comment on your MS Answers topic as the folks that were writing TPL's for IE 9 are probably as much in the dark as users are.

Millions of IE users that have recently upgraded to IE 10 probably have TPL lists that will not be refreshed.

One would assume that MS wants IE 10 users to rely solely on the DNT Header mechanism introduced as a default in IE 10.

Well *if* Microsoft disabled TPL updating when DNT is enabled, dropped TPL updating altogether in favor of the DNT approach, perhaps even fully dropped TPL support in favor of the DNT approach, it would be a heck of a maneuver. To the average person who heard about it, Microsoft's choice of enabling DNT by default was probably interpreted to be a great thing. They may have even thought Microsoft is a champion of user privacy. However, Microsoft's doing that likely reduced the chances of DNT becoming something more meaningful, and if TPL functionality is reduced then most TPL users would face even greater threats than they faced before. IOW, it would indeed be like tricking users... into thinking that things are better when in reality things are worse. I hope this turns out to be a bug. If not, well played Microsoft... well played.

 

DNT is in no way a replacement for TPLs. Fact being, DNT is just completely futile and useless. Pretty sad the updates bug is completely ignored by MS.

I can't help but remember call centers transferring people from one assistant to another. LOL

When I do this, it will be ongoing once more. Please be patient.

The DNT header request is not a substitute for a few craftily used TPL's.

Unless they have solved incompatibility issues between both, which I have emailed them a few days back, enabling DNTme would make ads blocked by TPLs be displayed. Period.

I still haven't tested the newest versions, but all previous versions + TPLs would make -http://www.softpedia.com displays ads, which Fanboy TPLs do block. Disabling DNTme would solve this issue, for example.

AVG Do-Not-Track disables itself if it detects TPLs are enabled.

So, what mistakes are you talking about? I'm talking about facts here.
