I find myself constantly coming back to Avast. In any case, I had no idea bitdefender free was the issue to all my general slowness.

VLk or someone has something to say on this network shield bug somewhere on win xp:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhBarGLCT30

Sadly, this is the second bad performance in a review for avast 8...Again most of samples tested for 0-day part werent even malicious..they were just crashing and not even infecting the system and it sounds like something wrong happened in the review..the reason that caused the computer unbootable seems to be one of avast driver's crash and not malware

    Any comments Rejzor??

    Re: Questions About Ad Blocker

    All.
Don't know, but compatible with IE x64.
No, you cannot choose any filters other than whitelisted sites.
    Of course, why not?

Hmm yes why that "newbos2" wasn't blocked ? it's always block btw.
Like what he said btw "I would like to see something like Comodo like Default Deny ...."
For me he's right for the autosandbox alert if it does not detect any malicious activity, most of the normal users will "continue execution".
BTW, I asked Vlk and said that once the file terminates its analysis in the Autosandbox some part of it including DNA (execution trace) are uplauded so you protect all the 180 + M users by getting infected.
But soon or later with "Dyna generators signs" this will probably change ...

This is just a joke for me .......
He picked up 6 samples ok ? Why cannot he shows us that he picked up INFECTED samples by uplauding them to VT and showing us the date that VT seen it the first time ....
I liked manzai test, because I gave samples to him they were fresh and undetected and I verified all of them on VT to make sure ...
As you said for me too, some of the samples seemed really to be goodware ... (according to icon behaviors after execution etc ...).
Still waiting for another good test.

The new and somewhat "hidden" Ad Blocker of Avast 8! (Settings -> Browser Integration -> install Ad Blocker) seems to be broken (XP - IE8 ).

The Ad Blocker loads on the browser, but when I click on its icon, I get an error with a long message that starts with "Cannot find..." .

Also, I can't confirm that it is actually blocking any ads.

I don't understand why Avast insists with these browsers addons..at the pace major browsers are updating they only waste their resources trying to keep up with the changes...
Waste of resources for them, and for the users..

I am also facing NetworkShield bug on XP. I tested Avast 8 Final fresh install with malicious links. Few links were blocked fine by NS but few links blocked by NS still downloaded fine.

    +1 .
    --------
    Cannot find... index.html in C:\Documents and Settings\XXXX (user name) \Application Data\Avast Ad Blocker\html\templates folder

    My workaround:
    From:
    C -> Program Files -> avast Software -> Avast Ad Blocker IE -> IE folder > html -> templates folder = index.html
    copy /paste "index.html: file to:
    C:\Documents and Settings\XXXX (user name) \Application Data\Avast Ad Blocker\hml\templates folder

I too get this error on XP. Only the beta which first introduced ADBlock worked, the subsequent beta & final too gives the error. I tried fresh install, cleaned registry & manually cleaned Avast leftovers if found any but the prob still there.

On Win 7 64, IE 9, where is ADBlock? I have installed it & can see it only under Add-Ons. How to see &/or change the settings?

Worthwhile or not, maintaining compatibility with many & frequent browser updates has been an issue with WebRep. I'm not sure if it's implemented yet but updating add-ons via automatic definition updates is in the pipeline.

From a security standpoint, the adblocker actually strengthens your security as alot of malware (exploits, links ect.) are through ads, so I like the fact that they added it imo.

on a different note, is anyone else having trouble with cloud connections this morning? (morning my time)

If your running a browser with adblock installed then basically the avast adblocker is pointless.

Sorry, but i doubt that Avast has so good 0 day protection, samples must be older, knowing on several other videos, it was constantly bypassed by few malware samples and ever more, without a single reaction from the BB or any proactive module.

Hi friend, please read a little bit :
    https://blog.avast.com/2012/12/03/new-toy-research-lab/

I don't want to send here all the samples I used but if you want to see VT results go there : http://infomars.fr/forum/index.php?showtopic=4976
    (few hours/one day old)

    Thanks.

The avast team have some good new technologies on the horizon and detection will be most likely be the best there is when they are finally implemented.:D
