It's Bitdefender, not BitDefender. The "d" should be in lower case. lol

What do you think of it so far?

I've had no complaints. Everything is running smoothly and the updates are working great. Only stumbled across one page that contained malware. :thumb:

I think it's still a work in progress right now. It still needs the quarantine restore options that everyone has been asking for. I had issues with slowdowns in Firefox, which I assume are related to the web filtering. It doesn't seem to want to coexist with several of the firewalls, so there are conflicts there. I decided to wait for a while till they've worked on it more.. seems to be slow going so far. Great detection is fine, but the product has to be usable too.

The only issue I've had with BD - AV Free is a critical false positive. I reported it more than a week ago... but it's still not whitelisted nor have I received any response of my report.

Been using it since it came out in Dec and it really is a great AV solution for free. It's one of those rare security products that doesn't really need anything else other than a hardware router/firewall and the stock windows firewall. The quarantine restore would be great. I know it will quarantine stuff but it's a manual restore. The initial scan of your system is very slow but any scan after that seem to be fast. It really is a AV/malware killer.

It's Bitdefender with a Dacian Wolf now.

    Not long ago was BitDefender

I really love the web filter. Has already blocked 4 bad sites within the last 5 minutes.

Are you intentionally going to bad sites to see if it blocks them?

I don't know if they are bad sites or not.

I'm assuming this is because BD already incorporates many technologies that many of the two-way firewalls do.

As far as the Firefox issue goes, I was able to fix by restoring to the factory settings and it really did help. Remember to write down which extensions and userscripts and themes you had installed prior to doing this.

Does Bitdefender Free ask what action to take when it detects something yet? A month ago, I didn't like how it was essentially in "auto-mode" and it would quarantine a bunch of my files without asking.

No, and I don't think they are going to change that.

Afaik it can't/won't do that since system files are whitelisted or similar :)

I'm done with it for now. Maybe I'll take a look again in a few months when they've actually done some more work on it.

I guess there are still some false positives. :doubt: Does Bitdefender Free use the same web filter database as Bitdefender paid products?

Have you read the thread? This has been asked (and answered) like 5 times now.

    No they are not compatible.
